John Clagett Proctor (1867-1956) was the son of John Clagett Proctor,Sr. and Mary Ann Childs, the daughter of Samuel Childs and Mary Ann (Strong) Davison of Washington, D.C. His father was the son of Abner Proctor (b.1803) and Catharine Smith. John Clagett Proctor, Sr. was originally named John Wesley Proctor, however he changed his name to honor his grandmother Sophia Clagett Proctor. John, Jr. married Annie Maud Crown, daughter of Charles Edward Crown and Francis Marion Haislett in 1887. Early family members lived at Carlisle, Cumberland Co., Pennsylvania and near Hagerstown, Maryland.
