Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) is featured by the tight integration of cyber and physical components. CPS has made major advances with a broad societal impact. Now in the era of Industry Revolution 4.0, CPS is considered as an enabling technology. Combined with autonomy, big data, machine learning and internet of things, CPS empowers systems with greater intelligence to address uncertainties, unknowns, attacks, and unexpected events. This book highlights the latest advances and explores the new trends in the design and implementation of smarter Cyber-Physical systems (CPS). It introduces integrated model-based and data-driven solutions for CPS that demonstrate features including both adaptabil...
Oak Ridge National Laboratory's (ORNL's) Sustainable Transportation Program (STP) works with government and industry to develop scientific knowledge and new technologies that accelerate the deployment of energy-efficient vehicles and intelligent, secure, and accessible transportation systems. Scientists are tackling complex challenges in transportation using comprehensive capabilities at ORNL's National Transportation Research Center and the laboratory's signature strengths in high-performance computing, neutron sciences, materials science, and advanced manufacturing. Research focuses on electrification, efficiency of combustion and emissions, data science and automated vehicles, and materia...
Digital media provide humans with more access to information than ever before-a computer, tablet, or smartphone can all be used to access data online and users frequently have more than one device. However, as humans continue to venture into the digital frontier, it remains to be known whether access to seemingly unlimited information is actually helping us learn and solve complex problems, or ultimately creating more difficulty and confusion for individuals and societies by offering content overload that is not always meaningful. Throughout history, technology has changed the way humans interact with the world. Improvements in tools, language, industrial machines, and now digital informatio...
Conference proceedings from 'Antec 2001' held on 6-10 May 2001 in Dallas, Texas. This includes the Volume III topic of Special Areas Color and Appearance Division.
This publication represents the culmination of the National Academies Keck Futures Initiative (NAKFI), a program of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, and the National Academy of Medicine supported by a 15-year, $40 million grant from the W. M. Keck Foundation to advance the future of science through interdisciplinary research. From 2003 to 2017, more than 2,000 researchers and other professionals across disciplines and sectors attended an annual "think-tank" style conference to contemplate real-world challenges. Seed grants awarded to conference participants enabled further pursuit of bold, new research and ideas generated at the conference.
