Bridging Faith and Reason: Apologetics Beyond Concordism, Anachronism, and Scientism is a bold and thoughtful journey into the heart of modern Christian apologetics. In a world where faith and science often seem at odds, this book offers a refreshing invitation: to move beyond forced harmonizations and engage both Scripture and science on their own terms. Drawing on theology, philosophy, and cultural analysis, the author critiques simplistic concordism, warns against reading modern science into ancient texts, and dismantles the illusion of scientism as the sole path to truth. Instead, the book champions a humble and intellectually honest apologetic method, one that honors the literary richne...
How someone sees Scripture directly correlates with how one sees life. If Jesus Christ is seen organically and meaningfully in every part of Scripture, then he will be seen that way in every aspect of life. As lofty as that might sound, the inverse is also true: if it is a struggle to see Christ organically and meaningfully in various parts of Scripture, then it will be a struggle to see him that way in various aspects of life. The purpose of this book is to help readers engage in God’s word so that Christ is beheld in every part of both Scripture and life, by offering an approach to Scripture that is from Scripture itself. Thus, the heart of this approach is to engage in God’s word as he himself intends. As a result, readers will see that all of Scripture is grounded, saturated, and culminating in Christ alone; and in turn, that all of life is grounded, saturated, and culminating in Christ alone.
Christianity regards teaching as one of the most foundational and critically sustaining ministries of the Church. As a result, Christian education remains one of the largest and oldest continuously functioning educational systems in the world, comprising both formal day schools and higher education institutions as well as informal church study groups and parachurch ministries in more than 140 countries. In The Encyclopedia of Christian Education, contributors explore the many facets of Christian education in terms of its impact on curriculum, literacy, teacher training, outcomes, and professional standards. This encyclopedia is the first reference work devoted exclusively to chronicling the ...
This collection of essays honours Kevin J. Vanhoozer by representing the current state of evangelical hermeneutics in light of his work. The volume consists of three parts: The Biblical Script, Great Performances, and Theodrama Today. Each part contains wide-ranging contributions from well-known scholars, who address important topics for contemporary hermeneutics in dialogue with Vanhoozer's influential work. Kevin J. Vanhoozer is today's leading evangelical theologian of biblical interpretation. He is one of the most influential voices in contemporary hermeneutics, and in academic theology he is one of his generation's most influential evangelicals.
In Participation and Covenant: Contours of a Theodramatic Theology, Moes develops a theological framework that has participation in the life of God in Christ through the Spirit as its integrative center. In doing so, he enters into conversation with covenant or federal theology, particularly as it has been presented by Michael Horton, in which the integrative center is the concept of the covenant. He argues that God's fundamental relationship with humanity does not entail a covenant ontology--a fundamentally legal and ethical relationship to God, as we find in Horton's presentation--but rather an ontology of participating in God's loving presence in Christ through the Holy Spirit. For this r...

God is a missionary God. God is also hospitable in his nature. He makes his enemies friends and invites them to intimate communion. The mission of God in Scripture often occurs through hospitality when God's people encounter the not-yet people of God at table or in hospitable environments and invite them to believe. This motif of mission as hospitality plays out through the Old and New Testament Scriptures, and through the Eucharist. It can also be observed through the witness of monks and contemporary missionaries who embraced a hospitable approach to mission. For the church to participate in God's mission today, a vision to win, conquer, or change the world should be exchanged for a conviction to welcome the stranger and make room for others while proclaiming the gospel--that is, to imitate the hospitable God in mission.
"Be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect." What does it mean to be perfect? Is entire sanctification possible in this life? Such words evoke worry and wonder in this time. In this introductory resource, pastor Nick Quient carefully explores the relevant questions surrounding Pauline theology and the journey toward perfect holiness in Christ. Addressing topics like sin, heaven, marriage, and the work of Jesus Christ in relation to sanctification, this book is a helpful resource for the church and for pastor-theologians who are seeking to live out the life of the Spirit.
