The first meeting in this series was organized by Prof. Pawlowski and Dr. Lacy in 1976 at the Marie Curie-Sklodowska University in Lublin, Poland. The conference dealt with various physicochemical methodologies for water and wastewater treatment research projects that were jointly sponsored by US EP A and Poland. The great interest expressed by the participants led the organizers to expand the scope of the second conference, which was also held in Poland in September 1979. The third and enlarged symposium was again successfully held in 1981 in Lublin, Poland. At that time the participating scientists and engineers expressed their desire to broaden the coverage as well as the title of the con...
Biomaterials have become an integral part of medicine today, helping in healing and restoring functionality in people with injury or disease, especially for bone implants and drug delivery systems. This has led to the development of polymers that are biocompatible, biodegradable, and/or resorbable. This new book presents the latest resesasrch on bio-based composites, processing, and characterization for drug delivery and fixation devices. Key features: Highlights the latest processing and characterization of the bioabsorbable composite materials Outlines a broad range of different areas such as wound healing, craniofacial, maxillofacial, drug carriers, and fixation devices for orthopedic fixations Discusses advanced techniques for the development of composites and biopolymer-based composites Presents the latest developments in synthesis, preparation, characterization, mechanical evaluation, and future challenges of composite applications in drug delivery and fixation devices
The text begins by discussing the processing and characterization of nano-manufactured resorbable bionanocomposites and presents the latest advances in carbon-based polymer nanocomposite materials for sensing applications. It further presents different characterization techniques such as scanning electron, transmission electron, atomic force microscopy, and powder X-ray diffraction for the identification of bionanocomposites. This book: • Introduces nano-manufactured processed composites for biomedical application, processing, and characterization of bionanocomposites. • Presents biobased nano-manufactured processed composites for imaging, tissue repairing, and drug-delivery applications...
This volume comprises the select peer-reviewed proceedings of the International Conference on Nanotechnology: Opportunities and Challenges (ICNOC22). It aims to provide a comprehensive and broad-spectrum picture of the state-of-the-art research and development in nanomaterials, nanocomposites, nanobiosensors, nanochemistry, renewable energy, nanochemistry in medicine, batteries and supercapacitors, targeted cellular therapies, among others. This volume will be useful for researchers and professionals working in nanotechnology and allied fields.
Handbook of Heterocyclic Corrosion Inhibitors presents a comprehensive overview of corrosion inhibition using heterocyclic compounds. It covers numerous, emerging heterocyclic compound-based industrial corrosion inhibitors that are oriented toward minimizing corrosive damages and prevention methods. Describing the fundamentals of heterocycles, corrosion, and corrosion inhibition, the book considers the potential of different series of N-heterocycles, such as acridine and acridone-based, carbazole-based, imidazole and imidazoline-based, indole and indoline-based, melamine-based, etc. It presents the corrosion inhibition potential of oxygen- and sulfur-based heterocycles compounds. The book also explores issues with corrosion as a result of improper design with descaling, acidification, refinery, and transport processes. The book will be of interest to researchers and graduate students studying corrosion science, heterocyclic chemistry, material science and engineering, energy, chemistry, and colloid science. It will also be a valuable reference for corrosion scientists and R&D engineers working in industrial corrosion and industrial-based corrosion protection systems.
This book presents fundamental and applied research aimed at the development of smart cities across India. Based on the exploration of an extensive array of multidisciplinary literature, this book discusses critical factors of smart city initiatives: management and organization, technology, governance, policy, people and communities, economy, infrastructure, and natural environment. These factors are broadly covered under the integrative framework of the book to examine the vision and challenges of smart city initiatives. The book suggests directions and agendas for smart city research and outlines practical implications for government professionals, students, research scholars and policy makers. A lot of work is happening on smart cities as it is an upcoming area of research and development. At international level, and even in India, the concept of smart cities concept is a hot topic at universities, research centers, ministries, transport departments, civic bodies, environment, energy and disaster organizations, town planners and policy makers. This book provides ideas and information to government officials, investors, experts and research students.
