Captain Giles Hamlin was born about 1622 in England. Giles arrived in America before 1851 and resided in Hartford, Connecticut, before settling in Middletown, Connecticut. He was a mariner for almost fifty years. In 1655 he married Hester (ca. 1628-1700), daughter of John Crow of Hartford, Connecticut. Giles died 1 September 1689.
