Courts Boards Guidance
Area Courts Boards have been established as part of the unified system of courts administration in England and Wales, under the reforms enacted by the Courts Act 2003. From April 2005, a new agency, Her Majesty's Courts Service (HMCS) is responsible for administration of all Magistrates' Courts, County Courts, Crown Courts, the High Court and the Court of Appeal. The role of Courts Boards is to advise HMCS on how to improve courts administration, and this guidance, prepared by the Department for Constitutional Affairs, explains the role of members of Courts Boards in co-operation with the HMCS.
