Los himnos de la "Hymnodia hispanica"
La expulsión de los jesuitas en 1767 ocasionó la diáspora de sus humanistas, eruditos e historiadores por la Italia de finales del siglo XVIII. Entre ellos, destaca la figura del jesuita extremeño Faustino Arévalo (1747-1782), quien publicó en Roma ediciones comentadas de poetas latinos y preparó la edición de las obras completas de San Isidoro de Sevilla. La principal aportación del autor al humanismo fue su Hymnodia hispanica, aparecida en 1786, donde recopiló himnos del Oficio Divino hispano y compuso otros nuevos adecuados a cada festividad religiosa. Su labor, ensalzada por estudiosos como el P. Miquel Batllori, es un ejemplo de la importante tarea cultural efectuada por algunos miembros de la Compañía de Jesús durante su exilio.
