Cosmic Chemistry
The annual meeting of the Astronomische Gesellschaft in Cologne, June 1988, featured extensive reviews of the chemical processes relevant to astrophysics. The twelve contributions to this book, written by experts from the US, UK, France, Belgium, Switzerland and Germany, deal in depth with the chemistry of comets and meteorites, of stars and their shells, of the interstellar medium and galaxies. The Galactic Interstellar Medium
The previous Saas-Fee Advanced Course dedicated to the interstellar medium took place in 1972. The tremendous scientific advances that have occurred in this field since then, in particular owing to the availabihty of receivers working at completely unexplored wavelength bands, fuUy justified a new set of lectures. As a consequence, the members of the Swiss Society for Astrophysics and As tronomy voted that "The Galactic Interstellar Medium" should be the subject of the 1991 course. Interstellar Dust
IAU Symposium 135 on Interstellar Dust was hosted and co-sponsored by NASA's Ames Research Center from July 26-30, 1988. The symposium was held at the lovely campus of Santa Clara University situated around the historic Santa Clara Mission in California. The meeting was made possible by generous grants from the Astron omy and Relativity Branch of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the Galactic Astronomy Program of the National Science Foundation. Herbig-Haro Flows and the Birth of Low Mass Stars
An overview of recent observational and theoretical developments in the study of Herbig-Haro jets and their role in the complex and violent processes that govern the birth of low-mass stars. The 47 papers cover specific Herbig-Haro objects, free-hydrogen flows, and radio jets; the physics and chemistry of molecular outflows; theoretical models; disks, winds, and magnetic fields; and protostars of high and low mass and their environment. A summary of the conference is also provided. Among the specific topics are Orion proplyds and The Eagle's Eggs, Hubble Space Telescope imaging of the disks and jets of Taurus young stellar objects, numerical simulations of optical knots in YSO outflows, shock chemistry in bipolar molecular outflows, and molecular hydrogen emission in embedded flows.
