The History of the Pacific Islands Studies Program at the University of Hawaii, 1950-1986
This thesis examines the history of the Pacific Island Studies Program (PIP) at the University of Hawaiʻi as an area studies program, beginning with the University's early interest in research about the Pacific. After World War II there was a strong interest in such research, and increased U.S. federal support and interest from the 1960s to the 1980s.
