This publication gives information on collecting, preserving, handling, mounting, and labeling insect specimens, on subsequent care of collections, and on recognition of the general insect groups or orders. Jacob Feather (1759-1832) and his parents, Christian and Maria Vätter/ Vetter/Fedder/Fetter/Fether/Feather(s) immigrated from Rhineland Pfalz to Philadelphia in 1775. He married Mary Connoly (1769-1860) in Bedford County, Pennsylvania in 1791. Descendants have scattered throughout the United States as well as other countries.
