Complex Geometry and Analysis
The volume contains the texts of the main talks delivered at the International Symposium on Complex Geometry and Analysis held in Pisa, May 23-27, 1988. The Symposium was organized on the occasion of the sixtieth birthday of Edoardo Vesentini. The aim of the lectures was to describe the present situation, the recent developments and research trends for several relevant topics in the field. The contributions are by distinguished mathematicians who have actively collaborated with the mathematical school in Pisa over the past thirty years.
Contemporary Trends in Algebraic Geometry and Algebraic Topology
The Wei-Liang Chow and Kuo-Tsai Chen Memorial Conference was proposed and held by Prof S S Chern in Nankai Institute of Mathematics. It was devoted to memorializing those two outstanding and original Chinese mathematicians who had made significant contributions to algebraic geometry and algebraic topology, respectively. It also provided a forum for leading mathematicians to expound and discuss their views on new ideas in these fields, as well as trends in 21st Century mathematics. About 100 mathematicians participated in the conference, including Sir Michael Atiyah, Jacob Palis, Phillip Griffiths, David Eisenbud, Philippe Tondeur, Yujiro Kawamata, Tian Gang, etc.This invaluable volume contains the selected papers presented at the conference. The topics include canonical maps of Gorenstein 3-folds, fundamental groups of algebraic curves, Chen''s interated integrals, algebraic fiber spaces, and others.
Complex Analysis and Geometry
The papers in this wide-ranging collection report on the results of investigations from a number of linked disciplines, including complex algebraic geometry, complex analytic geometry of manifolds and spaces, and complex differential geometry.
Cohomological Aspects in Complex Non-Kähler Geometry
In these notes, we provide a summary of recent results on the cohomological properties of compact complex manifolds not endowed with a Kähler structure. On the one hand, the large number of developed analytic techniques makes it possible to prove strong cohomological properties for compact Kähler manifolds. On the other, in order to further investigate any of these properties, it is natural to look for manifolds that do not have any Kähler structure. We focus in particular on studying Bott-Chern and Aeppli cohomologies of compact complex manifolds. Several results concerning the computations of Dolbeault and Bott-Chern cohomologies on nilmanifolds are summarized, allowing readers to study explicit examples. Manifolds endowed with almost-complex structures, or with other special structures (such as, for example, symplectic, generalized-complex, etc.), are also considered.
Integrable Systems, Topology, and Physics
Ideas and techniques from the theory of integrable systems are playing an increasingly important role in geometry. Thanks to the development of tools from Lie theory, algebraic geometry, symplectic geometry, and topology, classical problems are investigated more systematically. New problems are also arising in mathematical physics. A major international conference was held at the University of Tokyo in July 2000. Surveys in Representation Theory of Algebras
This volume contains selected expository lectures delivered at the annual Maurice Auslander Distinguished Lectures and International Conference over the last several years. Reflecting the diverse landscape of modern representation theory of algebras, the selected articles include: a quick introduction to silting modules; a survey on the first decade of co-t-structures in triangulated categories; a functorial approach to the notion of module; a representation-theoretic approach to recollements in abelian categories; new examples of applications of relative homological algebra; connections between Coxeter groups and quiver representations; and recent progress on limits of approximation theory.
Automated Deduction in Geometry
This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-proceedings of the Third International Workshop on Automated Deduction in Geometry, ADG 2000, held in Zurich, Switzerland, in September 2000. The 16 revised full papers and two invited papers presented were carefully selected for publication during two rounds of reviewing and revision from a total of initially 31 submissions. Among the issues addressed are spatial constraint solving, automated proving of geometric inequalities, algebraic proof, semi-algebraic proofs, geometrical reasoning, computational synthetic geometry, incidence geometry, and nonstandard geometric proofs.
