Die kapitalistische Globalisierung führte zu einer historisch einmaligen Konzentration von Macht und Reichtum in den Händen weniger. Die öffentliche Diskussion hierüber wird dabei meist von Verschwörungstheorien einer angeblich omnipotenten globalen Elite bestimmt. Eine kritische sozialwissenschaftliche Theorie von Macht und Eliten im Kontext der Globalisierung fehlte jedoch bislang. Christian Schneickert stellt eine empirisch fundierte Aktualisierung der sozialwissenschaftlichen Elitentheorie vor.
