The book Femtosecond Laser: Techniques and Technology provides complete insight of Femtosecond Laser technology in various ocular indications. Refractive Surgery technology has undergone rapid advancements and innovations in last two decades. Femtosecond Laser offers new possibilities in the field of minimally invasive corneal surgery. It employs near infrared pulses to cut tissue with minimal collateral tissue damage. The highly localized tissue effect of low energy Femtosecond Laser shall expand the capabilities and precision of this technology in near future and may be used to create three-dimensional intrastromal resection with micron precision. Femtosecond laser is a simple, rapid relia...
Basic Sciences in Ophthalmology aims to link clinical ophthalmology directly to its basic science roots. This first volume describes the physics and chemistry required for a sound understanding of modern ophthalmology. The book opens with an extensive discussion of the interaction of light with matter and the way in which light is used in ophthalmic examinations and treatments. After describing traditional methods of imaging, particular emphasis is placed on modern instrumentation such as OCT. The interaction between light and tissues in different types of laser treatment is also addressed. The chemistry section focuses on compounds particularly relevant to the eye, such as oxygen and water. The origin and consequences of oxidative stress are reviewed, and the physical behavior of chemical compounds in the eye is explained. Understanding is facilitated through the use of many examples taken from the field of ophthalmology. The text is complemented by about 450 figures.
Cataract surgery has been the procedure which has almost defined the profession of ophthalmology for millennia. Patients have understood that cataract surgery could transform their lives, in an almost miraculous way. Much of the history of this surgery has been handed down to us, and, on occasion, we have inherited some myths along with the facts. In this two-volume monograph, we sought to uncover the reality behind the myths. This book is entitled A New History of Cataract Surgery because it is based on original research from primary sources. It is the work of 44 co-authors, from North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. It contains new translations from Latin, Greek, Sanskrit, Chinese, Arabic, Persian, French, Dutch, and German. It contains photographs from private collections. We sought to tell stories you might have heard a little about, from antiquity onward, in a new way. Many of the chapters in this book covering the 20th century were written by ophthalmologists who lived through the revolutionary changes in their field, and were prime movers in making these advances.
This comprehensive and sophisticated video atlas comprises of more than 345 videos of some of the important and finest ophthalmic surgeries by approximately 200 contributors from all over the world. It would serve as a landmark reference not only for teaching residents in ophthalmic surgery practices, but also to experienced surgeons. This revised and updated second edition through its high quality videos demonstrates step by step, the latest techniques involved in both anterior and posterior segment surgeries along with a narration. The new technologies, especially Femtosecond Laser Refractive and Cataract Surgery, Minimally Invasive Surgery 23G and 25G, Posterior Segment Surgery and other new techniques have been described in the second edition. -- Publisher.
