Dynamic Effects in Composites

Book comprises multiple investigations into dynamic loading's effects on composite materials. With approaches ranging from weight drop to high-velocity and high-impact testing, as well as FEM and other analytic techniques, leading researchers explain damage, delamination and other effects in a variety of composites types and configurations.

One Small Step

Purdue University has played a leading role in providing the engineers who designed, built, tested, and flew the many aircraft and spacecraft that so changed human progress during the 20th century. It is estimated that Purdue has awarded 6% of all BS degrees in aerospace engineering, and 7% of all PhDs in the United States during the past 65 years. The University's alumni have led significant advances in research and development of aerospace technology, have headed major aerospace corporations and government agencies, and have established an amazing record for exploration of space. More than one third of all US manned space flights have had at least one crew member who was a Purdue engineering graduate (including the first and last men to step foot on the moon). The School of Aeronautics & Astronautics was founded as a separate school within the College of Engineering at Purdue University in 1945. The first edition of this book was published in 1995, at the time of the school's 50th anniversary. This corrected and expanded second edition brings the school's illustrious history up to date, and looks to Purdue's future in the sky and in space.

Strength Prediction of Adhesively-Bonded Joints

  • Publisher: CRC Press

Adhesively-bonded joints provide many advantages over conventional mechanical fasteners and are increasingly receiving attention as an alternative to mechanical joints in engineering applications. The traditional fasteners usually result in the cutting of fibers and hence the introduction of stress concentrations, both of which reduce structural integrity. By contrast, bonded joints are more continuous and have potential advantages of strength-to-weight ratio, design flexibility, and ease of fabrication. This book provides an overview of available analytical methods as well as numerical methods.

Long-Term Durability of Polymeric Matrix Composites

Long-Term Durability of Polymeric Matrix Composites presents a comprehensive knowledge-set of matrix, fiber and interphase behavior under long-term aging conditions, theoretical modeling and experimental methods. This book covers long-term constituent behavior, predictive methodologies, experimental validation and design practice. Readers will also find a discussion of various applications, including aging air craft structures, aging civil infrastructure, in addition to engines and high temperature applications.

TRB Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) Research Results Digest 14: Graduate Research Award Program on Public Sector Aviation Issues summarizes the results of the initial four years of the Graduate Research Award Program on Public-Sector Aviation Issues (ACRP Project 11 04). The program is designed to encourage applied research on airport related aviation system issues and to foster the next generation of aviation community leaders. Under the program, up to ten awards of 10,000 dollars each are made to full time graduate students for successful completion of a research paper on public sector airport related aviation issues during the academic year. Candidates must be full time students enrolled in a graduate degree program at an accredited institution of higher learning during the academic year. Successful papers are presented at the TRB Annual Meeting following completion of the program; exceptional papers have been published in subsequent volumes of the Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board.
