The Astro 2020 Decadal report (Pathways to Discovery in Astronomy and Astrophysics for the 2020s) identified the need for a new class of mission for the next decade that fills the gap between a Mid-sized Explorer (MIDEX) and Flagship (Large) mission. The report specifically recommends that a cadence of one probe mission per decade with a cost cap of $1.5 billion balances scientific scope with timeliness. NASA has followed this recommendation and opened a call for Astrophysics Probe Explorer (APEX) proposals, restricted to either a far-infrared or an X-ray mission, due in Fall 2023 with a planned launch date in no later than 2032. In response to this call, the High-Energy X-ray Probe (HEX-P) ...
This textbook introduces the current astrophysical observations of black holes, and discusses the leading techniques to study the strong gravity region around these objects with electromagnetic radiation. More importantly, it provides the basic tools for writing an astrophysical code and testing the Kerr paradigm. Astrophysical black holes are an ideal laboratory for testing strong gravity. According to general relativity, the spacetime geometry around these objects should be well described by the Kerr solution. The electromagnetic radiation emitted by the gas in the inner part of the accretion disk can probe the metric of the strong gravity region and test the Kerr black hole hypothesis. With exercises and examples in each chapter, as well as calculations and analytical details in the appendix, the book is especially useful to the beginners or graduate students who are familiar with general relativity while they do not have any background in astronomy or astrophysics.“/p>
This book presents the proceedings of the KES International Conferences on Innovation in Medicine and Healthcare (KES-InMed-24), held in Madeira, Portugal, on June 19–21, 2024. Covering a number of key areas, including digital IT architecture in healthcare; advanced ICT for medicine and healthcare; biomedical engineering, trends, research, and technologies; and healthcare support systems, this book is a valuable resource for researchers, managers, industrialists, and anyone wishing to gain an overview of the latest research in these fields.
This book constitutes the proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Information Security and Practice and Experience, ISPEC 2017, held in Melbourne, Australia, in December 2017. The 34 full and 14 short papers presented together with 9 papers from the SocialSec Track in this volume were carefully reviewed and selected from 105 submissions. The papers cover topics such as blockchain, asymmetric encryption, symmetric encryption, lattice-based cryptography, searchable encryption, signature, authentication, cloud security, network security, cyber-physical security, social network and QR code security, software security and trusted computing, and SocialSec track.
This book provides a comprehensive introduction to X-ray and gamma-ray astronomy. The first part discusses the basic theoretical and observational topics related to black hole astrophysics; the optics and the detectors employed in X-ray and gamma-ray astronomy; and past, present, and future X-ray and gamma-ray missions. The second part then describes data reduction and analysis, the statistics used in X-ray and gamma-ray astronomy, and demonstrates how to write a successful proposal and a scientific paper. Data reduction in connection with specific X-ray and gamma-ray missions is covered in the appendices. Presenting the state of the art in X-ray and gamma-ray astronomy, this is both a valuable textbook for students and an important reference resource for researchers in the field.
This seven-volume set LNCS 14054-14060 constitutes the proceedings of the 25th International Conference, HCI International 2023, in Copenhagen, Denmark, in July 2023. For the HCCII 2023 proceedings, a total of 1578 papers and 396 posters was carefully reviewed and selected from 7472 submissions. Additionally, 267 papers and 133 posters are included in the volumes of the proceedings published after the conference, as “Late Breaking Work”. These papers were organized in the following topical sections: HCI Design and User Experience; Cognitive Engineering and Augmented Cognition; Cultural Issues in Design; Technologies for the Aging Population; Accessibility and Design for All; Designing fo...
