This book describes the newest developments in the creation of concrete using smart additives and supplementary cementitious materials as well as methods, technology and novel admixtures to monitor, evaluate and control steel corrosion in reinforced concrete. Industry experts and research specialists explain the structural, physical, and chemical properties of various types of concrete and its applications. They detail the characteristics preferred for manufacturing specific types of concrete. The book chapters also focus on the electrochemical state of the steel reinforcement in view of steel corrosion and corrosion control.
"In 1993, the CEB Commission 2 Material and Behavior Modelling established the Task Group 2.5 Bond Models. It's terms of reference were ... to write a state-of-art report concerning bond of reinforcement in concrete and later recommend how the knowledge could be applied in practice (Model Code like text proposal)... {This work} covers the first part ... the state-of-art report."--Pref.
Part 1 – Recommended extensions to Model Code 90 Starting in 1995 as a Joint CEB/FIP Working Group on Lightweight Aggregate Concrete (LWAC), the group was after the merger of CEB and FIP attached to the new fib Commission 8 Concrete. As a background for an extension of the CEB/FIP Model Code 1990 (MC 90) it delivered firstly Bulletin 4. Similarly to what has been done before in the field of High Strength / High Performance Concrete the present guide identifies the lacunae in the existing MC90 and proposes supplementary or alternative solutions to be applied for lightweight aggregate concretes. In order to facilitate its use the report is edited in two columns following the numbering of the...
Digital fabrication has been termed the “third industrial revolution”, and is promising to revolutionize many disciplines, including most recently the construction sector. Both academia and industry see immense promise in cementitious materials, which lend themselves well to additive manufacturing techniques for digital fabrication in construction. With this recent trend and high interest in this new research field, the 1st RILEM International Conference on Concrete and Digital Fabrication (Digital Concrete 2018) was organized. Since 2014, ETH Zurich has been host for the Swiss National Centre for Competence in Research (NCCR) for Digital Fabrication in Architecture, which is highly inte...
This book presents the work of the RILEM TC 258-AAA WP3, and serves as a comprehensive review of the role of alkalis in concrete in relation with the alkali-silica reaction. Chapter 1 investigates different aspects of the reaction related with the prevention, the characterization and development with the time of the ASR and the factors of influence. Chapter 2 is an in-depth analysis of the internal alkalis in the concrete components, while the Chapter 3 is related with the alkalis of the external alkalis. Chapter 4 provides valuable information about the standardization and regulations to prevent and to taking actions to minimizing the degradation due to the ASR. Finally, the Annex examines different structures, mainly pavements with flat shape and low volume of concrete, and dams with a very big volume of massive concrete and different tensional areas.

This book addresses one of the most important material categories: Materials used for constructions. A large percentage of the gross national product of most co- tries goes into infrastructure and buildings. This statement is true not only for the present but for most other periods in history, and for most cultures. This explains why understanding the behavior of construction materials has always been the - ject of intense investigations. The construction industry consumes extreme v- umes of material, and the growing demand for quality and safety require conti- ous improvement of materials and material compositions. A deep understanding of material behavior is essential to enable efficient c...
