Boundaries and Belonging in the Greek Community of Georgia
Mit "türkischem" Urum, pontischem "Griechisch" und orthodox-christlichem Glauben unterläuft Georgiens griechische Minderheit gängige Erwartungen an das Verhältnis von Sprache und (nationaler) Identität. In Georgien als griechisch anerkannt, in Griechenland jedoch nicht unbedingt, bewegen sie sich in einem spannungsreichen Geflecht sozialer Konstellationen und (un)möglicher Zugehörigkeiten, geprägt von Spuren der sowjetischen Vergangenheit. In einer sorgfältigen ethnografisch informierten Konversationsanalyse untersucht die Autorin die Aushandlung komplexer sozialer Grenzen, Zugehörigkeiten und Positionierungen im Gespräch. Grenzziehungen und -auflösungen erweisen sich dabei als dynamische und kontextabhängige Prozesse.
Syntactic architecture and its consequences II
This volume collects novel contributions to comparative generative linguistics that “rethink” existing approaches to an extensive range of phenomena, domains, and architectural questions in linguistic theory. At the heart of the contributions is the tension between descriptive and explanatory adequacy which has long animated generative linguistics and which continues to grow thanks to the increasing amount and diversity of data available to us. The chapters address research questions in comparative morphosyntax, including the modelling of syntactic categories, relative clauses, and demonstrative systems. Many of these contributions show the influence of research by Ian Roberts and collaborators and give the reader a sense of the lively nature of current discussion of topics in morphosyntax and morphosyntactic variation.
Manual of Discourse Traditions in Romance
Discourse Traditions are a key concept of diachronic Romance linguistics. The present manual aims to establish this approach at an international level by assembling contributions that introduce its theoretical foundations, discuss connections with alternative approaches of text and discourse analysis, show the relevance of Discourse Traditions for the history of Romance languages, and explore possibilities for future applications of the concept.
Crossing Languages to Play with Words
Wordplay involving several linguistic codes is an important modality of ludic language. This volume offers a multidisciplinary approach to the topic, discussing examples from different epochs, genres, and communicative situations. Deictic Conceptualisation of Space, Time, and Person
This volume is a collection of articles which present the results of investigations into the grammar, semantics and pragmatics of deictic expressions in several languages. Special emphasis is placed on contrastive studies that take cognitive and cultural context into account. Both the empirical and theoretical studies focus on the ways in which spatial, temporal, personal and textual entities are conceptualised and referred to. The cognitive approach proves to be a promising perspective combining aspects of perception, reasoning and linguistic expression to reveal what seems to be at the very heart of deictics.
