Spline Functions
This book describes in detail the key algorithms needed for computing with spline functions and illustrates their use in solving several basic problems in numerical analysis, including function approximation, numerical quadrature, data fitting, and the numerical solution of PDE's. The focus is on computational methods for bivariate splines on triangulations in the plane and on the sphere, although both univariate and tensor-product splines are also discussed. The book contains numerous examples and figures to illustrate the methods and their performance. All of the algorithms in the book have been coded in a separate MATLAB package available for license. The package can be used to run all of the examples in the book and also provides readers with the essential tools needed to create software for their own applications. In addition to the included bibliography, a list of over 100 pages of additional references can be found on the book's website.

Mathematics of Surfaces XII
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 12th IMA International Conference on the Mathematics of Surfaces, held in Sheffield, UK in September 2007. The 22 revised full papers presented together with 8 invited papers were carefully reviewed and selected from numerous submissions. Among the topics addressed is the applicability of various aspects of mathematics to engineering and computer science, especially in domains such as computer aided design, computer vision, and computer graphics. The papers cover a range of ideas from underlying theoretical tools to industrial uses of surfaces. Research is reported on theoretical aspects of surfaces including topology, parameterization, differential geometry, and conformal geometry, and also more practical topics such as geometric tolerances, computing shape from shading, and medial axes for industrial applications. Uphill Against Water
In Uphill against Water, Peter Carrels examines the history of Missouri River water development projects in general and describes the struggle over one of the largest of those projects, South Dakota?s Oahe irrigation project, in detail. Opposition to the Oahe project was intense and well organized. After four years of bitter competition, an energetic and resourceful grassroots group, United Family Farmers, wrested control of the Oahe conservancy district board, a government agency that had been an ardent supporter of the irrigation project.
