Keyholders #2: The Other Side of Magic

This Other Side of Magic is the second in a series of light fantasy chapter books set in Morgantown, a town on the border between the real world and the magical world, by the authors of the Publishers Weekly best selling BAILEY SCHOOL KIDS—a series of 50 books with more than 30 million copies sold! "I need your help, Natalie," Mr. Leery said. "Yours and Penny's and Luke's." Natalie is surprised to learn from her neighbor, Mr. Leery, that her classmates Penny and Luke are apprentice Keyholders. A Keyholder's job is to guard the border between the real world and the magical world. Natalie is even more surprised when she finds out that she could be a Keyholder too—if she forms a "link" with a rat named Buttercup. Will Natalie choose to join the Keyholders? Can she, Penny, and Luke learn how to work together with their links and protect the border from the goblins sent by the evil Queen of the Boggarts? The Gospel of Luke has long been known for its variation between good, educated Greek and Semitic influences. In the last century, five theories have attempted to explain the Semitic influence: Semitic sources; imitation of the Greek Bible; the Greek of the ancient synagogue; literary code-switching between standard Greek and semitized Greek; and the social background of bilingualism. Albert Hogeterp and Adelbert Denaux revisit Luke's Greek and evaluate which alleged Semitisms of vocabulary and syntax are tenable in light of comparative investigation across corpora of Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic, literary as well as documentary, texts. They contend that Semitisms in Luke's Greek are only fully understood in light of a complementarity of linguistic backgrounds, and evaluate them in diachronic respect of Synoptic comparison and in synchronic respect of their place in Luke's narrative style and communicative strategy.

The American Dream

Two young men were brought to the American colonies, one from England and the other from East Africa. Neither was here by choice since they were both brought here as slaves. That’s right, even the one from England. At this point, life did not offer either of them a great deal of promise. There was no racial distinction, only one of class. The British noblemen running the show had but one objective, and that was to turn the American colonies into their own kingdoms. The patriotic sentiments expressed in our founding documents were chiefly those of the peasantry. The last thing the ruling class sought was liberty and justice for all. Their primary concern was who might serve them in their do...

Aleut Dictionary

This comprehensive dictionary draws on ethnographic and linguistic work of the Aleut language and culture dating to 1745. An introductory section explains the dictionary's format, offers a brief historical survey, and contains notes on Aleut phonology and orthography, dialectal differences and developments, Eskimo-Aleut phonological correspondences, and Aleut treatment of Russian words. The main body of the dictionary is in two parts: basic words and derivatives, and suffixes. Following this are problematic words in older sources, appendixes, and an English index, with its own introduction. Appended materials include notes on demonstratives, directions of the wind, positional nouns, numerals, Aleut calendars, kinship terms, Ancient Aleut personal names, baidarka terminology, place names with maps, and loan words. An addendum contains information obtained while the dictionary was being typeset. (MSE)
