Das Handbuch geht davon aus, dass sich die Erforschung literarischer Mehrsprachigkeit in erster Linie durch ihre Fragerichtung und ihre Methodik auszeichnet. Es stellt daher die Methoden vor, die für die Analyse literarischer Mehrsprachigkeit zur Verfügung stehen, und bietet zugleich kulturhistorische Hintergrundinformationen für ihre Interpretation. So eröffnet es auch neue Perspektiven auf die spezifische Sprachlichkeit literarischer Texte.
