Advances are constantly being made in the fields of medicine and healthcare, and keeping abreast of them is not always easy. This book presents the proceedings of the second KES International Conference on Innovation in Medicine and Healthcare (InMed 14), held in San Sebastian, Spain, in July 2014. The conference was attended by researchers and engineers, managers, students and practitioners from a broad spectrum of medically related fields, and this multidisciplinary group discussed the ways in which technological and methodological innovation, knowledge exchange and enterprise can be applied to issues relating to medicine, surgery, healthcare and the issues of an ageing population. A central theme of the conference was smart medical and healthcare systems, which explored how modern intelligent systems can contribute to the solution of problems faced by healthcare and medical practitioners today and addressed the application of the systems. The 43 papers included here provided a useful and interesting reference for anyone requiring an overview of current innovations in healthcare.
Innovation in medicine and healthcare is an interdisciplinary research area, which combines the advanced technologies and problem solving skills with medical and biological science. A central theme of this proceedings is Smart Medical and Healthcare Systems (modern intelligent systems for medicine and healthcare), which can provide efficient and accurate solution to problems faced by healthcare and medical practitioners today by using advanced information communication techniques, computational intelligence, mathematics, robotics and other advanced technologies. The techniques developed in this area will have a significant effect on future medicine and healthcare. The volume includes 53 papers, which present the recent trend and innovations in medicine and healthcare including Medical Informatics; Biomedical Engineering; Management for Healthcare; Advanced ICT for Medical and Healthcare; Simulation and Visualization/VR for Medicine; Statistical Signal Processing and Artificial Intelligence; Smart Medical and Healthcare System and Healthcare Support System.
This is the first book on experience-based knowledge representation and knowledge management using the unique Decisional DNA (DDNA) technology. The DDNA concept is roughly a decade old, and is rapidly attracting increasing attention and interest among researchers and practitioners. This comprehensive book provides guidelines to help readers develop experience-based tools and approaches for smart engineering of knowledge, data and information. It does not attempt to offer ultimate answers, but instead presents ideas and a number of real-world case studies to explore and exemplify the complexities and challenges of modern knowledge engineering issues. It also increases readers’ awareness of the multifaceted interdisciplinary character of such issues to enable them to consider – in different ways – developing, evaluating, and supporting smart knowledge engineering systems that use DDNA technology based on experience.
This volume of Advances in Intelligent and Soft Computing contains accepted papers presented at SOCO 2011 held in the beautiful and historic city of Salamanca, Spain, April 2011. This volume presents the papers accepted for the 2011 edition, both for the main event and the Special Sessions. SOCO 2011 Special Sessions are a very useful tool in order to complement the regular program with new or emerging topics of particular interest to the participating community. Four special sessions were organized related to relevant topics as: Optimization and Control in Industry, Speech Processing and Soft Computing, Systems, Man & Cybernetics and Soft Computing for Medical Applications.
This proceedings volume includes 32 papers, which present recent trends and innovations in medicine and healthcare including Innovative Technology in Mental Healthcare; Intelligent Decision Support Technologies and Systems in Healthcare; Biomedical Engineering, Trends, Research and Technologies; Advances in Data & Knowledge Management for Healthcare; Advanced ICT for Medical and Healthcare; Healthcare Support System; and Smart Medical and Healthcare System.
