Liver and Pancreatic Diseases Management
The aim of this book is to present a unique compilation of lectures given by international speakers at the Hammersmith Hospital during the recent Meetings in Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary and Transplantation. New therapeutical approaches, advances in oncology and in diagnostic imaging, which reduce the need for invasive techniques and reach an improvement in survival and quality of life in cancer, are considered in this book. Modern literature has been reviewed with special reference to articles of general interest. In the clinical management of patients with liver, bile duct and pancreas diseases, it is important to assess the degree of disturbance and to diagnose the causative insult, and therefore clinical and laboratory methods of assessing each of these pathologies are of high interest. This version is an up-to-date account of diseases of the liver, biliary tract and pancreas, including transplantation, which we trust will be of value for surgeons, physicians and pathologists and also a reference book for medical students.
Between Islamic and Secular Law
When describing the legal systems and laws of today’s Muslim-majority states in the Middle Eastern and North African region, two categories of laws are identified: one derived from Islamic and one from non-Islamic law. Following this notion, the literature finds that novel legal areas do not have any connection to Islamic law since they were not regulated by classical Islamic law. In contrast, the topic of organ transplantation is inherently connected to Islamic law because Islam considers itself to encompass all aspects of life. This research based on the analysis of organ transplantation laws of the MENA states encourages to rethink that a strict dichotomy between Islamic and non-Islamic laws does not exist. Organ transplantation laws in MENA states generally follow an international legal standard while also complying with the sharia.

Immunotherapy of Cancer with Sensitized T Lymphocytes
This text is a review of the field of cellular immunotherapy utilizing sensitized T lymphocytes. The contributors are experts in the field of experimental and clinical immunotherapy. Cellular therapy of malignancy has become more feasible with an increased understanding of the interactions between immune cells and tumours. The text reviews the mechanisms of T cell activation critical for the induction of antitumour reactivity and the problems associated with tumour-induced immunosuppression. It goes on to describe the functional properties of sensitized Y lymphocytes with regard to cytokine secretion, in vivo trafficking, and their therapeutic effectiveness. Intracellular Protein Transport and Membrane Biogenesis
This book is about membrane biogenesis and protein transport across biological membranes. Both prokaryotic and eukaryotic membrane transport systems are considered. The characteristics of targeting signals and membrane receptors on various intracellular organelles are described. Protein targeting to the endoplasmic reticulum and secretion via vesicular transport are discussed. In addition, recent developments in protein targeting and membrane transport to mitochondria, chloroplasts, peroxisomes and the nucleus are described. An introductory chapter on biological membranes is included as a review while a chapter on the transport of lipids to intracellular membranes precedes discussions on protein transport and membrane translocation.
