Tailoring Multiphase and Composite Ceramics

The proceedings of the Twenty-First University Conference on Ceramic Science held at The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA on July 17, 18 and 19, 1985 are compiled in this volume "Tailoring Multiphase and Composite Ceramics". This Conference emphasized the' discussion and analysis of the properties of multiphase ceramic materials in which the microstructure is deliberately tailored for specific applications or properties. Inter nationally recognized authorities presented keynote and invited lectures on topics dealing with processing and fabrication of multiphase and com posite electroceramics, fiber reinforced composites and high temperature multiphase ceramics. Results of r...

Alumina Chemicals

The world's experts on alumina are united in this effort to provide a comprehensive reference on the science and technology of alumina chemicals. Fifty-seven authors, representing 34 industrial firms, government agencies and universities, contributed to this book. This book covers the entire gamut of subjects relating to alumina from fundamental chemistry and material properties to applications and future uses. It includes a glossary and brief biographies of each author, detailing their experiences with alumina.

This book presents a comprehensive review, evaluation, and summary of the dependence of mechanical properties on grain and particle parameters of monolithic ceramics and ceramic composites. Emphasizing the critical link between fabrication and ceramic performance, the book covers the grain dependence of monolithic properties and the dependence of ceramic, composite properties on grain and particulate parameters. It includes theoretical and conceptual background, pertinent models, experimental results, a data review, discussion, and a summary or recommendations. Illustrations feature microstructural details while graphs plot data on material hardness, compressive strength, and other pivotal variables.

Significant progress in the science and technology of the mechanical behaviour of materials has been made in recent years. The greatest strides forward have occurred in the field of advanced materials with high performance, such as ceramics, composite materials, and intermetallic compounds. The Sixth International Conference on Mechanical Behaviour of Materials (ICM-6), taking place in Kyoto, Japan, 29 July - 2 August 1991 addressed these issues. In commemorating the fortieth anniversary of the Japan Society of Materials Science, organised by the Foundation for Advancement of International Science and supported by the Science Council of Japan, the information provided in these proceedings reflects the international nature of the meeting. It provides a valuable account of recent developments and problems in the field of mechanical behaviour of materials.

Albert Andriessen (1607-1686) and his brother, Arent Andriessen, immigrated from Norway to Amsterdam, Holland, where Albert married Annetie Barents in 1632. In 1636 they immigrated to Rensselaer County, New York. When he turned his property over to his eldest son, Albert moved to Albany, New York. The surname Bradt did not appear until about 25 years after their arrival (i.e. about 1660/ 1661), and its source is not known. Descendants and relatives lived in New York, New England, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, California and elsewhere. Some descendants immigrated to Ontario and elsewhere in Canada.
