Zi Zhi Tong Jian (Chinese: 资治通鉴;English: "Comprehensive Mirror in Aid of Governance") is a pioneering reference work in Chinese historiography, published in 1084 in the form of a chronicle. In 1065 AD, Emperor Yingzong of Songordered the great historian Sima Guang (1019–1086 AD) to lead with other scholars such as his chief assistants Liu Shu, Liu Ban and Fan Zuyu, the compilation of a universal history of China. The task took 19 years to be completed, and, in 1084 AD, it was presented to his successor Emperor Shenzong of Song. The Zi Zhi Tong Jian records Chinese history from 403 BC to 959 AD, covering 16 dynasties and spanning across almost 1,400 years, and contains 294 volumes (å·...

This volume contains the proceedings of the Eighth International Conference on Scientific Computing and Applications, held April 1-4, 2012, at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. The papers in this volume cover topics such as finite element methods, multiscale methods, finite difference methods, spectral methods, collocation methods, adaptive methods, parallel computing, linear solvers, applications to fluid flow, nano-optics, biofilms, finance, magnetohydrodynamics flow, electromagnetic waves, the fluid-structure interaction problem, and stochastic PDEs. This book will serve as an excellent reference for graduate students and researchers interested in scientific computing and its applications.
This volume contains the Proceedings of the AMS Special Session on Biological Fluid Dynamics: Modeling, Computation, and Applications, held on October 13, 2012, at Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana. In recent years, there has been increasing interest in the development and application of advanced computational techniques for simulating fluid motion driven by immersed flexible structures. That interest is motivated, in large part, by the multitude of applications in physiology and biology. In some biological systems, fluid motion is driven by active biological tissues, which are typically constructed of fibers that are surrounded by fluid. Not only do the fibers hold the tissues toget...
These papers present advancements in all aspects of high temperature electrochemistry, from the fundamental to the empirical and from the theoretical to the applied. Topics involving the application of electrochemistry to the nuclear fuel cycle, chemical sensors, energy storage, materials synthesis, refractory metals and their alloys, and alkali and alkaline earth metals are included. Also included are papers that discuss various technical, economic, and environmental issues associated with plant operations and industrial practices.
"Quantum Computing and Information: A Scaffolding Approach" is an essential guide for anyone eager to master the complex world of quantum computing. Targeting graduate students and advanced undergraduates, this book is part of a series designed to provide a holistic understanding of the field. Utilizing a "scaffolding approach," the book introduces concepts gradually, offers layered reinforcement, and includes practical exercises for deep learning. Key theories, insights, and algorithms are presented clearly, supported by illustrations and special textual features. The content is organized into four main sections: the basics of quantum systems, quantum gates, quantum entanglement, and essential algorithms and error correction. Whether you're new to the subject or seeking to deepen your expertise, this book provides a structured roadmap to understanding quantum computing.
