Thermochromic Phenomena in Polymers

This first title in the new Smithers Rapra Updates series focuses on the thermochromic phenomena in polymers. The content is structured according to the thermochromic material type. Chapter 1 will give an overview about polymers exhibiting thermochromic properties themselves. Thermochromic polymer systems obtained by doping the polymer matrix with thermochromic additives are reported in Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 reviews on polymer systems in which the interaction between the polymer matrix and an incorporated additive is the origin of thermochromism. Finally, in the fourth chapter polymer system.

Degradation and Stabilisation of Aromatic Polyesters

"This Polymer Bulletin is a current awareness service from the Polymer Library, the world's largest database dedicated to polymer literature. Each time the abstracts database is updated with new records (approx. every two weeks) you will be sent a bulletin alerting you to any items that relate to the degradation or stabilisation of aromatic polyesters. The degradation of aromatic polyesters (like PET) is different from that of some of the more conventional commodity polymers like polyethylene and polypropylene and as such this process has not been closely analysed as it has been for PE/PP. However, as some types of aromatic polyester are now far more mainstream in terms of usage it is helpful to consider their degradation and the ways in which they can be stabilised, particularly since they are frequently being subjected to harsh conditions. Degradation (and any stabilisation required) must be considered not only from the point of view of the expected life-time of the product, but also with respect to what happens at the end of its life - is it expected to biodegrade or remain solid and recycleable? There is much to consider in this area."--Publisher's website.

Endocrine Disruptors 2012 is a two-day conference organised by iSmithers and Smithers Viscient which will address key topics related to the evaluation of adverse effects on the endocrine system and corresponding regulatory requirements. Building on the success of the inaugural conference which highlighted the environmental effects, the 2012 event will focus on the evaluation of the effects on human health. The conference will bring together experts from academia, regulatory bodies, and industry from around the globe to address the following topics: Test methods and testing strategies for the evaluation of endocrine effects Interpretation of results as part of risk assessment Recent regulatory activities Mode of action of endocrine disruptors; presentations of new findings Case studies"
