Traditions, Standards & Transformations
This book tells the story of the Towson University, Maryland, Professional Development School Network, which serves more than eighty schools in metropolitan Baltimore and surrounding areas. It describes the development and implementation of state and national standards for professional development schools, accountability and sustainability issues, and impacts on the roles of faculty and teachers. This book is a source of advanced information for institutions that face the complexities of professional development school work for connecting policy with practice. The Towson project not only examines the «how to» of professional development schools but also examines some of the impacts on teaching and learning.
Creative Ideas For Teaching Evaluation
In 1976, the first session on the teaching of evaluation was held at an annual meeting of evaluators. A few hardy souls gathered to exchange ideas on improving the teaching of evaluation. At subsequent annual meetings, these informal sessions attracted more and more participants, eager to talk about common teaching interests and to exchange reading lists, syllabuses, assignments, and paper topics. The ses sions were irreverent, innovative, lively, and unpredictable. Eventually the group for malized itself with the American Evaluation Association as the Topical Interest Group in the Teaching of Evaluation (TIG: TOE). As word of TIG: TOE's activities spread, instructors from all over the country clamored for assistance and advice. It became apparent that a handbook was need ed, a practical interdisciplinary guide to the teaching of evaluation. Donna M. Mertens, a long-standing member of TIG: TOE and an accomplished teacher of evaluation, volunteered to edit the book, and her skills, sensitivity, and experience in the craft of teaching are apparent throughout.
Staying the Course with Professional Development Schools
The Professional Development School (PDS) movement has been a major vehicle for the simultaneous renewal of Pre-K-12 education and the teaching profession for nearly twenty years. This second volume in a series created by Towson University goes beyond «start up» stories and presents data-based discussions on a variety of topics about PDS implementation and assessment, including PDSs in specialty areas, such as music and physical education, mentoring, teacher development, standards, accountability, and sustainability. Chapters are written by researchers who presented their work at the Second National Professional Development School Conference sponsored by the Maryland State Department of Education's Professional Development School Network, and who represent public and private colleges and universities and school districts in Maine, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Georgia, Kansas, and Missouri, and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
Advances in Cognition, Education, and Deafness
Contributions to the Second International Symposium on Cognition, Education, and Deafness (July 1989, Gallaudet University) address issues in the areas of cognitive assessment, development, intervention programs, and cognitive processes, as well as language and cognition and neuroscience.
