The FeT series – Fieldbus Systems and their Applications Conferences started in 1995 in Vienna, Austria. Since FeT'2001 in Nancy, France, the conference became an IFAC – International Federation of Automatic Control sponsored event. These proceedings focus on 13 sessions, covering, fieldbus based systems, services, protocols and profiles, system integration with heterogeneous networks, management, real-time, safety, dependability and security, distributed embedded systems, wireless networking for field applications, education and emerging trends. Two keynote speeches from experts outside Europe are featured. The first one entitled "Bandwidth Allocation Scheme in Fieldbuses" by Prof. Seung Ho, Hanyang University, Korea. The second by, Prof. I.F. Akyildiz, Georgia Institute of Technology, USA, "Key Technologies for Wireless Networking in the Next Decade". - Featuring 36 high quality papers from 13 countries - Keynote speech reflecting the current interest of wireless communications for industrial applications - FeT'2005 was supported by a International Program Committee of around 40 members from 15 countries, 6 from Europe

Sustainable Green Chemical Processes and their Allied Applications

Urbanization, industrialization, and unethical agricultural practices have considerably negative effects on the environment, flora, fauna, and the health and safety of humanity. Over the last decade, green chemistry research has focused on discovering and utilizing safer, more environmentally friendly processes to synthesize products like organic compounds, inorganic compounds, medicines, proteins, enzymes, and food supplements. These green processes exist in other interdisciplinary fields of science and technology, like chemistry, physics, biology, and biotechnology, Still the majority of processes in these fields use and generate toxic raw materials, resulting in techniques and byproducts ...

From Biomass to Biobased Products

Realizing the finite nature of natural resources such as fossil fuels, the emphasis is now shifting to alternative raw materials with the potential to mitigate the environmental, economic, and social stresses of today’s world. Under this horizon, in this book, we explore the use of biomass and key issues, including technological nodes and disruptive technologies capable of unlocking the black box of biomass-based technology. This book provides an overview for those attentive to the promises of biomass as a source of a myriad of specialty products.

African-Brazilian Culture and Regional Identity in Bahia, Brazil

Examines how in the middle of the twentieth century, Bahian elites began to recognize African-Bahian cultural practices as essential components of Bahian regional identity. Previously, public performances of traditionally African-Bahian practices such as capoeira, samba, and Candomblé during carnival and other popular religious festivals had been repressed in favor of more European traditions.

The Alley

In his fourth book, The Alley, the author João Calazans Filho tells humorous story, flavored with local habits. It’s about a serial killer from the South of Bahia, Brazil, and of the bohemian, player and womanizer Police chief officer, who makes his mission to capture him. At the beginning of the Military Dictatorship and in the midst of the violent reality of cacao cultivation and of the Brazilian coronelism, where killing is just another tool of work, and fear is the best way to lead, the Police Chief Officer João tries to put a stop, no matter how hard it takes, to the action of a serial killer, because the officer wants to maintain the impression of peace in the city, so that he can ...

Environmental problems are forcing a rethinking of the world’s energy supply system. In parallel, there is an increasing amount of global solid waste production. A fundamental shift toward greater reliance on biomass wastes in the world’s energy system is plausible because of ongoing major technological advances that hold the promise of making the conversion of biomass into high-quality energy carriers, like electricity and gaseous or liquid fuels, economically competitive with fossil fuels. Therefore, waste-to-energy systems have become a paramount topic for both industry and researchers due to interest in energy production from waste and improved chemical and thermal efficiencies with more cost-effective designs. This biomass shift is also important for industries to become more efficient by using their own wastes to produce their own energy in the light of the circular economy concept. This book on “Biomass Wastes for Energy Production” brings novel advances on waste-to-energy technologies, life cycle assessment, and computational models, and contributes to promoting rethinking of the world’s energy supply systems.

Biomass Volume Estimation and Valorization for Energy

This book is the outcome of contributions by many experts in the field from different disciplines, various backgrounds, and diverse expertise. This book provides information on biomass volume calculation methods and biomass valorization for energy production. The chapters presented in this book include original research and review articles. I hope the research presented in this book will help to advance the use of biomass for bioenergy production and valorization. The key features of the book are: Providing information on biomass volume estimation using direct, nondestructive and remote sensing methods Biomass valorization for energy using thermochemical (gasification and pyrolysis) and biochemical (fermentation) conversion processes.
