The Books of Samuel recount a specific section of the history of Israel and thus represent historiography & admittedly of a very special kind. They do this in an aesthetically highly sophisticated way and thus represent a literary work of art & also of a very special kind. The studies presented here explore both of these aspects: initially using an approach involving specialist exegesis and historical and scholarly methods, and then in thematic longitudinal sections and in portraits of individual narrative figures. The results reveal a very specific relationship between factuality and fictionality, a highly sensitive narrative art and very forceful images of man and God.

Unerforscht ist, nach welchen Kriterien die Auslegungen ausgewählt wurden und ob das Werk als umfassendes Nachschlagewerk für exegetische Fragen, zur Verbindung von Bibelauslegung in Talmud und Midrasch oder zur Reform der rabbinischen Auslegungstradition konzipiert wurde. Die Übersetzung des Werkes ist ein erster Schritt, diese Fragen zu beantworten.

The Book of Jeremiah
Written by leading experts in the field, The Book of Jeremiah: Composition, Reception, and Interpretation offers a wide-ranging treatment of the main aspects of Jeremiah. Its twenty-four essays fall under four main sections. The first section contains studies of a more general nature, and helps situate Jeremiah in the scribal culture of the ancient world, as well as in relation to the Torah and the Hebrew Prophets. The second section contains commentary on and interpretation of specific passages (or sections) of Jeremiah, as well as essays on its genres and themes. The third section contains essays on the textual history and reception of Jeremiah in Judaism and Christianity. The final section explores various theological aspects of the book of Jeremiah.
Autonomy and the New World Order
There are two reasons for writing this book. The first is practical and political, the other is theoretical and political. The practical reason is the attempt to promote peace that is punctuated with violent local skirmishes in various trouble spots in the world in an effort to realize the noble goal of national self-determination. The theoretical is to clarify the concept of and the reasons for "self-determination". Finally, the political reasons are (a) to take the discussion outside the legal profession and introduce practical and theoretical considerations, and (b) to argue that it is time for the governments comprising the United Nations to step in, define self-determination, and establish a new mechanism for the 21st century that can facilitate peacefully the right to self-determination.
