Descendants lived in Tennessee, Illinois, New York, New Jersey, California and elsewhere. An addendum is a transcript of Martha Thompson's short diary between 1889 and 1894.

He was a descendant of Thomas Skinner who was born ca. 1617 in England. Thomas married Mary Gooden and immigrated to America ca. 1650. Joseph married Mary Gaston 9 September 1824 in Meigs Co., Ohio. They lived in Newman, Douglas Co., Illinois and were the parents of ten sons and three daughters. Descendants lived primarily in Illinois.
Jaques-David Golay (b.1761) married Louise Marie Golay in 1782, and immigrated in 1802 from Switzerland to Rosendale, Ulster County, New York. He used only the given name of David here. The family moved in 1804 to New Switzerland, Indiana. Includes ancestors in Switzerland to 1750. Descendants and relatives lived in New York, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Washington, Utah, Texas, Virginia, California.
