Social Psychiatry in South Asia

Social Psychiatry in South Asia

This book focuses on the impact of social dimensions on the mental health of people living in the eight South Asian countries. The biopsychosocial approach has been well accepted and considered while formulating the risk factors and treatment strategy for mental disorders. It indicates the importance of social structure and social influence on mental health, psychiatric disorders, and treatment. The social determinants of mental health including social networks, culture, norms, socio-economic conditions, and healthcare systems in South Asia vary remarkably from the West. Also, societal changes under Western influence are noticeable in several sections leading to a change in the way people cope with adversities. Additionally, the political and economic instability in several countries poses additional challenges to mental health. The impact of social structure in South Asia on psychiatric disorders and vice-versa has not been adequately addressed yet, so this book seeks to address that. The book also takes a look at various new, state-run, social initiatives to advance mental health and manage mental illnesses.

'Original, clever, insightful and packs a hell of a feminist punch. I loved it' Joanne Harris With words come power. But do you speak out or shut up? Everywhere Sara Javed goes - online or outside - everyone is shouting about something. Couldn't they all just shut up? One day she takes her own advice. The Silent Movement sparks outrage in its opposers. Global structures start to shift. And the lives of those closest to Sara - as well as strangers inspired by her act - begin to unravel. Disasters

The issue of the mental health consequences of disasters is always timely, but, at present, its consideration serves a pressing need if one takes into account the great number of co-existing and super-imposed disasters occurring throughout the world. Taking Greece as an example, on top of the economic disaster that has produced serious mental health problems, the country is faced with a serious refugee problem produced by human-made disasters that have occurred elsewhere and produce serious mental health problems to the refugees and the host population alike. This volume deals with the mental health consequences of Natural Disasters, Human-made Disasters, and a third category, Economic Disasters. This volume will help contribute to more efficient management and mitigation of the mental health effects of such disasters.

Recent Advances on Nitrogen Use Efficiency in Crop Plants and Climatic Challenges

Nitrogen (N) is a mineral nutrient that is essential for the normal growth and development of plants that is required in the highest quantity. It is an element of nucleic acids, proteins, and photosynthetic metabolites, therefore crucial for crop growth and metabolic processes. Recently, it was estimated that N fertilizers could meet the 48% demand of the world’s population. However, overuse and misuse of N fertilizers raised environmental concerns associated with N losses by nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions, ammonia (NH3) volatilization, and nitrate (NO3−) leaching. For instance, NH3 is a pollutant in the atmosphere, N2O is a greenhouse gas that has a warming potential 298 times higher tha...
