Earth To God - The New Stewardship
The conflict between Religion and Science escalates to the Eco-world. Evidence of climate issues accumulates, yet political forces continue to ignore Earth’s warning signs. How can Climate Specialists and other scientists convince the inhabitants of this world that we each must take deliberate action to heal our planet and its environment? Johann covertly attends a climate summit in France and he quickly attracts the attention of several of the attendees who are intrigued by his point of view of Earth. Women on Philosophy of Art is the first study of women's philosophies of art in long nineteenth-century Britain. It looks at seven women spanning the time from the Enlightenment to the beginning of modernism. They are Anna Barbauld, Joanna Baillie, Harriet Martineau, Anna Jameson, Frances Power Cobbe, Emilia Dilke, and Vernon Lee. The central issue that concerned them was how art related to morality and religion. Baillie and Martineau treated art as an agency of moral instruction, whereas Dilke and Lee argued that art must be made for beauty's sake. Travel in Victorian Periodicals, 1850-1900
This is the first study to explore the connections between the development of travel and the rapid expansion of the periodicals market in the second half of the nineteenth century in Britain. By the 1860s, travel articles had become a staple of the periodicals market and reached readers who might never have travelled far themselves or bought a travel book. This monograph demonstrates that the representation of travel in Victorian periodicals came in forms and with cultural functions that differed from book publication, and that this media-specific representation helped to inscribe travel into the Victorian lifeworld. Based on a corpus of several general-interest periodicals targeted at different audiences, this book investigates how different readers - the family, women, young people and the working classes - engaged with travel. It argues that travel articles in periodicals performed significant cultural work because they accommodated readers to travel.
