The two-volume set LNCS 3561 and LNCS 3562 constitute the refereed proceedings of the First International Work-Conference on the Interplay between Natural and Artificial Computation, IWINAC 2005, held in Las Palmas, Canary Islands, Spain in June 2005. Addressing fundamental questions of the conversion of the West to Christianity between the 4th and 8th centuries, this book explores how and why new religions spread in societies that were previously foreign to them, and examines what happens to the old gods and traditional beliefs in this process.
