Lionel Elcan was born in 1750 in Prussia, Germany. He immigrated to the United States in 1785 and built Elk Hall in 1803 on his plantation in Buckingham County, Virginia. He married Elizabeth Hooper (1768- 1836) in 1787. They had nine children. Lionel died in 1833. Traces nine generations of descendants.
