Postmigration and Postcolonialism / Postmigration et postcolonialisme
In recent years, the concept of postmigration has become increasingly relevant to interdisciplinary research, whether it refers to a postmigrant generation (of authors or musicians), to a postmigrant societies or perspectives. The parallels to postcolonialism have been repeatedly emphasized. But to what extent do the two approaches overlap in terms of content and structure? This volume is the result of a Franco-German collaboration and aims to answer this question beyond strictly national contexts, through theoretical reflections and case studies from both French- and German-language literature and music. The contributions deal with the relationship between rap, contemporary literature and migration, intermedial relationships between literature and music, identity and body concepts of a postmigrant generation, postmigrant linguistic reflections and practices, as well as postcolonial and postmigrant society models.
Centers and Peripheries in Romance Language Literatures in the Americas and Africa
What is center and periphery? How can centers and peripheries be recognized by their ontological and axiological features? How does the axiological saturation of a literary field condition aesthetics? How did these factors transform center-periphery relationships to the former metropolises of Romance literatures of the Americas and Africa? What are the consequences of various deperipheralization contexts and processes for poetics? Using theoretical sections and case studies, this book surveys and investigates the limits of globalization. Through explorations of the intercultural dynamics, the aesthetic contributions of former peripheries are examined in terms of the transformative nature of peripheries on centralities.
Literary Transnationalism(s)
Goethe in 1827 famously claimed that national literatures did not mean very much anymore, and that the epoch of world literature was at hand. Since the turn of the twenty-first century, in the so-called "transnational turn" in literary studies, interest in world literature, and in how texts move beyond national or linguistic boundaries, has peaked. The authors of the 18 articles making up Literary Transnationalism(s) reflect on how literary texts move between cultures via translation, adaptation, and intertextual referencing, thus entering the field of world literature. Air Travel Fiction and Film
Air Travel Fiction and Film: Cloud People explores how, over the past four decades, fiction and film have transformed our perceptions and representations of contemporary air travel. Adopting an interdisciplinary approach, the book provides a comprehensive analysis of a wide range of international cultural productions, and elucidates the paradigms and narratives that constitute our current imaginary of air mobility. Erica Durante advances the hypothesis that fiction and film have converted the Airworld—the world of airplanes and airport infrastructures—into a pivotal anthropological place that is endowed with social significance and identity, suggesting that the assimilation of the sky into our cultural imaginary and lifestyle has metamorphosed human society into “Cloud People.” In its examination of the representations of air travel as an epicenter of today’s world, the book not only illustrates a novel perspective on contemporary fiction, but fills an important gap in the study of globalization within literary and film studies.

Écrits à l'ombre du terrorisme
Que peut le roman face à la vague actuelle du terrorisme? Voici la question, tout sauf ingénue, qui sous-tend le présent essai. Celui-ci envisage en effet la fiction comme un outil cognitif qui permet à l'homme d’interroger son expérience, souvent angoissante, de la terreur. À travers des exemples empruntés à l’œuvre d’une série d’écrivains contemporains, tels que Rushdie, Houellebecq ou encore Sansal, il est montré comment le roman amène son lecteur à partager simultanément le point de vue du kamikaze et de sa victime, à explorer aussi bien les causes que les conséquences de l’attentat. Par cette transformation du terrorisme en objet esthétique, la fiction se voit saisie comme la réaffirmation de sa capacité à opposer la beauté et l’ordre au chaos d’un monde éclaté. Elle se fait l’héritière moderne de Schéhérazade, qui à l’aide d’un bon roman repousse sans cesse la mort promise par le sultan devenu intégriste.
