Updated and translated by André Luiz V. da Costa e Silva This book is a combination of a metallographic atlas for steels and cast irons and an introductory textbook covering the fundamentals of phase transformations and heat treatment of these materials. Every important stage of processing, from casting to cold working is clearly discussed and copiously illustrated with metallographs that show the obtained structures, both desired and those achieved when deviations occur. First published in 1951 by Professor Hubertus Colpaert from the Institute for Technological Research (IPT) of São Paulo, Brazil, this book became one of the most important Brazilian references for professionals interested...
This book provides a comprehensive exploration of how fracture mechanics is applied to solve problems specific to the nuclear industry. It delves into key principles, such as evaluating load capacity, predicting component lifetime, and establishing inspection intervals for cracked materials. The content covers essential topics, including linear-elastic and elastic-plastic fracture mechanics, material properties, crack initiation, fatigue, and stress corrosion cracking. With a focus on practical applications, the book addresses critical components like reactor vessel, turbine disks, and steam generator tubes, offering valuable insights for professionals in design, material selection, manufacturing, and inspection within nuclear power plants, as well as serving as a useful resource for students in related engineering courses
As one of the results of an ambitious project, this handbook provides a well-structured directory of globally available software tools in the area of Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME). The compilation covers models, software tools, and numerical methods allowing describing electronic, atomistic, and mesoscopic phenomena, which in their combination determine the microstructure and the properties of materials. It reaches out to simulations of component manufacture comprising primary shaping, forming, joining, coating, heat treatment, and machining processes. Models and tools addressing the in-service behavior like fatigue, corrosion, and eventually recycling complete the co...
Comprehensive Molecular Insect Science, Second Edition is a unique resource that provides extensive review articles on contemporary topics in insect science and entomology. It covers crucial new subjects such as genetic control, pollinators, and the effects of climate change and environmental shifts on insect physiology and molecular biology. Every section includes thorough discussions on the influence of genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and bioinformatics in the field, which has seen significant advancements since the previous edition. The book bridges gaps between disciplines, helping readers grasp the fundamentals of insect science and appreciate its applications, such as in environmen...
The 2023 National Institute of Justice (NIJ) Forensic Science Research and Development (R&D) Symposium is intended to promote collaboration and enhance knowledge transfer of NIJ-funded research. The NIJ Forensic Science R&D Program funds both basic or applied R&D projects that will (1) increase the body of knowledge to guide and inform forensic science policy and practice or (2) result in the production of useful materials, devices, systems, or methods that have the potential for forensic application. The intent of this program is to direct the findings of basic scientific research; research and development in broader scientific fields applicable to forensic science; and ongoing forensic science research toward the development of highly discriminating, accurate, reliable, cost-effective, and rapid methods for the identification, analysis, and interpretation of physical evidence for criminal justice purposes.
This book is a printed edition of the Special Issue "Forest Pathology and Plant Health" that was published in Forests
