Leonard Acree was born in 1799 in North Carolina. He married Sarah Ballard in 1824 in Wayne County, Kentucky. The couple had nine children. The family eventually settled in Martin County, Indiana where Leonard died in 1873. Leonard's father was John Acree, the oldest son of William Acree, a veteran of the Revolutionary War born in 1752 in Frederick County, Maryland.
