The Duplicate

As in most suspense thrillers, the clash between good and evil is prominent. In The Duplicate, you will not only find good fighting evil, but find evil clashing with evil, with great wealth as the cause. Greed is prominent and for this setting I have created massive wealth held by a young husband and wife. Their love for each other is great having learned the hard way in previous marriages. The woman gives birth to a son at the same time a servant on the estate also gives birth to a son. They look alike since they come from the loins of the same father. They look alike but the personalities are quite different, thus the first of the good and evil becomes evident. These two boys grow to manhood and both meet a psychopathic antagonist who is the key to the balance of the story. A plan to switch the half brothers and bring one into prominence and control over all the wealth is set in motion. The plot to mislead is a good one and involves deception, plastic surgery, and murder. Of course there is a love story as as a sub plot and because of that love, good has a chance against evil. As usual, I have placed ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances.==

Sceptical Perspectives on the Changing Constitution of the United Kingdom

  • Categories: Law

This book examines the far-reaching changes made to the constitution in the United Kingdom in recent decades. It considers the way these reforms have fragmented power, once held centrally through the Crown-in-Parliament, by means of devolution, referendums, and judicial reform. It examines the reshaping of the balance of power between the executive, legislature, and the way that prerogative powers have been curtailed by statute and judicial ruling. It focuses on the Human Rights Act and the creation of the UK Supreme Court, which emboldened the judiciary to limit executive action and even to challenge Parliament, and argues that many of these symbolised an attempt to shift the 'political' co...

Leading Works in Public Law

  • Categories: Law

This book brings together a group of leading scholars working in public law and constitutional theory. It examines accepted leading works of public law while also exploring those that deserve greater attention. Over 13 chapters, a group of leading public law experts each examine one leading work from the UK public law canon. Each chapter critically reflects on the context of a work in public law, taking into account not just the work and its context but also how it shapes and contributes to the broader discipline. The final chapter offers an international overview of the chapters themselves, reflecting critically on the scholarly canon of UK public law from the perspective of American constitutional scholarship. The book will be of interest to scholars and students of constitutional law.

Judicial Individuality on the UK Supreme Court

  • Categories: Law

This book presents an empirical analysis of the UK Supreme Court's output over its first ten years, with a specific focus on each individual judge's contribution to each case. It shows that judges, like all of us, are human; it would be difficult to imagine that any of us, even in our most professional capacity, could act completely independently of our predilections, motivations and biases. The same is true for the judges sitting on the UK's highest court. Drawing on insights from a bespoke dataset of judgments, this work discerns trends and tendencies across each judge's voting patterns and the reasoning they adopt when disposing of cases. It not only highlights areas of divergence, but al...

General Principles and Sector-Specific Rules in European Administrative Laws

  • Categories: Law

In the field of administrative law, there is no systematic body of rules similar to those characteristic of European civil codes. General principles are therefore of fundamental importance. This volume - the sixth in the series concerning the common core of European administrative laws - explores this importance through two strands. Firstly, it examines in detail the relationship between general principles of law, such as due process, and sector-specific rules established by legislative and regulatory provisions, for example in licensing and disciplinary matters. Several questions about the nature of general principles emerge through this analysis. Are general principles about filling gaps? ...
