Schoolhouse Shams
Written by a parent and school board member, who first embraced many of the ideas of the modern school reform movement, Schoolhouse Shams lays bare much of the mythology and misinformation that underpin many of the failed school reform policies of the last decade. Many of the top strategies of the highly publicized school reform movement already have been tried out in St. Louis with disastrous results. Along with demonstrating the failure of school reform prescriptions to improve education, the experience of St. Louis demonstrates that the ideological premise of the reform movement, that a focus on providing opportunities for private profit-taking will necessarily improve schools, is both wrong and conflicts with the ideals of democracy, accountability, and justice.
Translanguaging in Higher Education
This book examines translanguaging in higher education and provides clear examples of what translanguaging looks like in practice in particular contexts around the world. While higher education has historically been seen as a monolingual space, the case studies from the international contexts included in this collection show us that institutions of higher education are often translingual spaces that reflect the multilingual environments in which they exist. Chapters demonstrate how the use of translanguaging practices within the context of global higher education, where English plays an increasingly important role, allows students and professors to build on their linguistic repertoires to more efficiently and effectively learn content. The documentation of such practices within the context of higher education will further legitimatize translanguaging practices and may lead to their increased use not only in higher education but also in both primary and secondary schools.
Teaching Writing to Children in Indigenous Languages
This volume brings together studies of instructional writing practices and the products of those practices from diverse Indigenous languages and cultures. By analyzing a rich diversity of contexts—Finland, Ghana, Hawaii, Mexico, Papua New Guinea, and more—through biliteracy, complexity, and genre theories, this book explores and demonstrates critical components of writing pedagogy and development. Because the volume focuses on Indigenous languages, it questions center-margin perspectives on schooling and national language ideologies, which often limit the number of Indigenous languages taught, the domains of study, and the age groups included.
The Descendants of Peter and Barbara Buckwalter Hershey
Peter Hershey (1839-1922), son of Jacob Hershey and Elizabeth Eby, was born in Paradise Township, Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania. He married Barbara Neff Buckwalter (1840-1911), and raised a family of eleven children on a farm on the Strasburg Road in Paradise Township. The early ancestor, Andrew (Hans) Hersche, moved with his family from Appenzell, Switzerland to Palatinate, Germany and later on to Pennsylvania. They were mennonites.
Bomberger
Ancestors and descendants of Christian Bomberger emigrated from Baden, Germany in 1722. He settled in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

Trautman, Troutman Family, 1598-1998
Chiefly a record of some of the descendants of Michael Trautmann. He was born ca. 1598 in Schriesheim, Germany, to Sebastian Trautmann and Catherina. He married Margaretha Dorn. She died 12 Oct 1654. They were the parents of at least six children. He married Barbara Kern 15 May 1655. She was born ca. 1624, the daughter of Barthel Kern. She died in 1666. They were the parents of five children. He married Anna Margaretha Scheppler 28 Jan 1668. He died 20 Apr 1684. Descendants immigrated to America ca. 1743.
