The Web's Awake
The central thesis of The Web's Awake is that the phenomenal growth and complexity of the web is beginning to outstrip our capability to control it directly. Many have worked on the concept of emergent properties within highly complex systems, concentrating heavily on the underlying mechanics concerned. Few, however, have studied the fundamentals involved from a sociotechnical perspective. In short, the virtual anatomy of the Web remains relatively uninvestigated. The Web's Awake attempts to seriously explore this gap, citing a number of provocative, yet objective, similarities from studies relating to both real world and digital systems. It presents a collage of interlinked facts, assertions, and coincidences, which boldly point to a Web with powerful potential for life.
Progress in Artificial Intelligence
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 12th Portuguese Conference on Artificial Intelligence, EPIA 2005, held in Covilhã, Portugal in December 2005 as nine integrated workshops. The 58 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 167 submissions. An ontology is a formal description of concepts and relationships that can exist for a community of human and/or machine agents. The notion of ontologies is crucial for the purpose of enabling knowledge sharing and reuse. The Handbook on Ontologies provides a comprehensive overview of the current status and future prospectives of the field of ontologies considering ontology languages, ontology engineering methods, example ontologies, infrastructures and technologies for ontologies, and how to bring this all into ontology-based infrastructures and applications that are among the best of their kind. The field of ontologies has tremendously developed and grown in the five years since the first edition of the "Handbook on Ontologies". Therefore, its revision includes 21 completely new chapters as well as a major re-working of 15 chapters transferred to this second edition.

Bice Family History, 1800-1987
George Washington Bice was born in 1820 in Pennsylvania. In 1842 he married Leah Isabelle Cornman. They had nine children and later moved to Ohio and then about 1869 settled in Iowa. Many of their descendants are included in this material.
Descendants of Isaac Patten, Sr., and His Wife, Jane Norris
Thomas Patton (1750/1760-ca.1834) and his wife, Mary (Polly), married in Fayette County, Indiana about 1780, and lived in Maryland before moving to Fairfield Township, Butler County, Ohio. In 1814, they moved to Franklin (now Fayette) County, Indiana, where their son, Isaac Patten (1787-1860/1860), married Jane Norris in 1815. Isaac and Jane moved in 1818 to Fairbanks, Sullivan County, Indiana. Descendants and relatives of Thomas lived in Maryland, Ohio, Indiana, South Carolina, Georgia, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas and elsewhere.
