Offers thorough coverage of the remediation of soils contaminated by hazardous wastes, including materials, analytical techniques, cleanup design and methodology, characterization of geomedia, monitoring of contaminants in the subsurface, and waste containment. Cites specific case studies in hydrocarbon remediation that offer a concise overview of possible technological approaches.
Covering each aspect of an incineration facility, from contaminant receipt and storage to stack discharge and dispersion, this reference explores the operation and evaluation of incineration systems for hazardous and non-hazardous gaseous, liquid, sludge, and solid wastes. Highlighting breakthroughs in air pollution control, the book discusses adva
Chemical Degradation Methods for Wastes and Pollutants focuses on established and emerging chemical procedures for the management of pollutants in industrial wastewater and the environment. This reference offers an in-depth explanation of the degradation process, mechanisms, and control factors affecting each method, as well as issues crucial to the application of these approaches in real-world treatment sites. It examines ten of the most common and useful chemical technologies for environmental remediation and sanitation of industrial waste streams and offers implementation guidelines and examples of remediation strategies that are crucial to effective wastewater cleansing.
This reference overflows with an abundance of experimental techniques, simulation strategies, and practical applications useful in the control of pollutants generated by combustion processes in the metals, minerals, chemical, petrochemical, waste, incineration, paper, glass, and foods industries. The book assists engineers as they attempt to meet e
The Handbook of Pharmaceutical Controlled Release Technology reviews the design, fabrication, methodology, administration, and classifications of various drug delivery systems, including matrices, and membrane controlled reservoir, bioerodible, and pendant chain systems. Contains cutting-edge research on the controlled delivery of biomolecules!
A report on progress in the development of materials used in or on the human body, ranging from biopolymers used in controlled-release drug delivery systems and prosthetic devices to metals used in bone repair and plastics used in absorbable mechanisms such as sutures.
This reference text emerged from well over a decade of extensive interdisciplinary work on alternative energy production systems. The main focus of the research was how to deal with potentially very large sources of raw material that are potentially very large but decidedly under-utilized. For example, more than half the fossil fuel energy reserves in the United States are in the form of lower rank coals. However, very little interest is shown in energy recovery from these compared with other coals. In a similar manner, almost no research is carried out on peat and lignin for energy recovery, other than on combustion techniques. This book brings together a number of research investigations in these little-known and not well-established areas which can have substantial impact. It will be of interest to scientists seeking alternatives to conventional lower-ranked fossil processing technology, and well as to project managers and engineers involved in novel fossil fuel technologies.
