Pneumonia merupakan peradangan akut parenkim paru akibat infeksi saluran pernapasan akut yang disertai dengan batuk, sesak nafas dan timbul radang pada parenkim paru (Nurarif & Kusuma, 2015). Insiden Ventilator Associated Pneumonia (VAP), yaitu kejadian pneumonia akibat terlalu lama penggunaan ventilator menurut World Health Organization (WHO) terjadi pada lima hari pertama (3%), dihari keenam (5%) dan di hari kesepuluh (10%) dengan mortalitas >70%. Data di Indonesia tahun 2018 menunjukkan kejadian VAP bervariasi antara 9–27% dan angka mortalitas melebihi 50%
