Leben im Hasenbergl
Der Münchner Stadtteil Hasenbergl ist berühmt und berüchtigt. Oft wird er in einem Atemzug mit dem Berliner Wrangelkiez oder Hamburg-Billstedt genannt – ein „Problemviertel“ eben. Doch wie sehen das die Menschen, die dort wohnen? Sie wissen wohl am besten Bescheid über das Leben im Hasenbergl und deshalb kommen sie in diesem Buch zu Wort: alteingesessene und zugewanderte Bewohner, die Mitarbeiter einer Tauschbuchhandlung und eines Secondhandshops, Sozialarbeiter und die Azubis der Diakonie. Sie sprechen von Heimat und Nachbarschaft, von Familie und „... vom Glück im Kleinen wie im Großen.“ So entsteht das lebendige Bild eines Stadtteils, in dem es Probleme gibt, aber auch Lösungen.
RHEIN! Nr. 19
Seit dem Heft Nr. 18 ist ein Jahr vergangen, bis mit der vorlie-genden Nr. 19 die nächste Ausgabe von RHEIN! erscheint. Das zunächst für das Frühjahr 2019 vorgesehene Themenheft Deutschsprachige Literatur der Rroma und Sinti benötigt eine längere Vorbereitungszeit und wird im Herbst 2019 als Nr. 20 erscheinen. In Vorbereitung befinden sich das Themenheft Heft Nr. 21 zum Karneval, zu dem wir noch um Beiträge bis Ende September 2019 bitten, und ein Themenheft Deutschsprachige Literatur in Ostbelgien. Das nächste themenfreie Heft ist wieder für Mai 2020 geplant.
Alexandria Antiqua: A Topographical Catalogue and Reconstruction
Alexandria Antiqua aims to catalogue the archaeological sites of Alexandria, from the records of the French Expedition (1798-99) to the present day, and to infer the urban layout and cityscape at the time of its foundation (4th century BC), and then through the successive changes which took place up to the Arab conquest (7th century AD).
Jean Bodin, 'this Pre-eminent Man of France'
Jean Bodin was a figure of great importance in European intellectual history, known as a jurist, associate of kings and courtiers in sixteenth-century France, and author of influential works in the fields of constitutional and social thought, historical writing, witchcraft, and a great deal else besides. Best known for his contribution to formulating the modern doctrine of sovereignty, Bodin was a scholar of exceptional range, whose works provoked controversy in his own time and have continued to do so down the centuries. Hugh Trevor-Roper described him as 'the Aristotle, the Montesquieu of the sixteenth century, the prophet of comparative history, of political theory, of the philosophy of law, of the quantitative theory of money, and of so much else'. Much has been written on Bodin and his ideas, but in this new intellectual biography, Howell A. Lloyd presents the first rounded treatment of the thinker and his times, his writings (major and minor), and his ideas in their contemporary context, as well as in that of broader intellectual traditions.
