Moving book history in a new direction, this study examines publishers as brokers of Central Europe's political public sphere. They created international print markets, translated new texts, launched new journals, supported outspoken authors, and experimented with popular formats. Mit dieser Festschrift ehren Freundinnen und Freunde, Kolleginnen und Kollegen sowie Weggefährtinnen und Weggefährten aus Wissenschaft und Praxis Prof. Dr. Ursula Georgy anlässlich ihres Eintritts in den Ruhestand. Diese Publikation ist mehr als eine Festschrift im klassischen Sinn, bei welcher der Fokus normalerweise auf neueren wissenschaftlichen Erkenntnissen aus dem Arbeitskontext der Beitragenden liegt. Knapp die Hälfte der Beiträge in der vorliegenden Festschrift folgt diesem Konzept. Die weiteren Beiträge thematisieren persönliche Erfahrungen und Erlebnisse der Autorinnen und Autoren mit Ursula Georgy bzw. nehmen Bezug auf ihre Aktivitäten in und außerhalb der Hochschule. Saul Kussiel Padover (1905-1981) was a historian and political scientist at the New School for Social Research in New York City. In this seminal biography, published in 1978, Padover explains in the "Author's Note": "In this book, which has been twelve years in the making, I have aimed at something not available in other biographies of Marx: an objective account of him as a human being -- lover, husband, friend, fighter, father, foe -- rather than as the philosophic symbol and revolutionary idol that he has become."
