Presents the latest advances in complex-valued neural networks by demonstrating the theory in a wide range of applications Complex-valued neural networks is a rapidly developing neural network framework that utilizes complex arithmetic, exhibiting specific characteristics in its learning, self-organizing, and processing dynamics. They are highly suitable for processing complex amplitude, composed of amplitude and phase, which is one of the core concepts in physical systems to deal with electromagnetic, light, sonic/ultrasonic waves as well as quantum waves, namely, electron and superconducting waves. This fact is a critical advantage in practical applications in diverse fields of engineering...
This text introduces and investigates estimation algorithms for signal registration. Signal registration can be defined as the problem of estimating a varying displacement between two random processes. This problem has great importance in many applications, perhaps the most familiar of which lies in the field of passive sonar. The bearing of the signal source is related to the time delay (displacement) between two random waveforms. In the general signal registration problem, the time delay is itself a random function of time. Part one of this book is devoted to the problem of variable time delay estimation. Another application of the signal registration lies in image processing where registration is called motion estimation. By determining the relative displacement (motion) between the intensities of consecutive image frames, one can encode an image more efficiently. In this application, the displacement is a position-dependent vector process. Part two discusses the problem of nonuniform image motion estimation.
As new technologies are created and advances are made with the ongoing research efforts, power system harmonics has become a subject of great interest. The author presents these nuances with real-life case studies, comprehensive models of power system components for harmonics, and EMTP simulations. Comprehensive coverage of power system harmonics Presents new harmonic mitigation technologies In-depth analysis of the effects of harmonics Foreword written by Dr. Jean Mahseredijan, world renowned authority on simulations of electromagnetic transients and harmonics
This text illustrates the main issues and concepts behind deductive databases through the description of a real system. Both theory and practice combine to advance a pragmatic approach. The book covers all related topics from basic theory to its coupling with a known database management system and its implementation on a commerical multiprocessor. An overview describes the problems related to the field. In the introduction, basic tools and references to related work give the necessary background context. Chapter two slowly begins building the concepts that finally lead to the kern algorithm used throughout the book - mixed top-down, bottom-up computation. Upon completion of the book, the reader should be able to build a deductive database. Implementation problems are exposed and solved and new strategies and algorithms with their performance behaviour are presented. Additionally the reader should also learn the benefits and drawbacks of working with an existing database and the usefulness of a parallel machine.
Various systems science and engineering disciplines are covered and challenging new research issues in these disciplines are revealed. They will be extremely valuable for the readers to search for some new research directions and problems. Chapters are contributed by world-renowned systems engineers Chapters include discussions and conclusions Readers can grasp each event holistically without having professional expertise in the field
