The book explores current tendencies of globalization in Laos and offers a theoretical framework for their interpretation.
Methods play a key role in how we access and subsequently organise data. There is a tendency, however, for scholars to focus primarily on their data at the expense of the methodological acts that bring such data into existence in the first place. The academic study of Islam is certainly no different in this regard. Indeed, many continue to employ established or classic methods that often echo (neo-)orientalist and other political inclinations. This collection, in contrast, offers an alternative, providing a set of multi-disciplinary approaches that focus on how we create, study and disseminate "e;Islamic data."e;
Within the context of globalization, cultural transformations are increasingly analyzed as hybridization processes. Hybridity itself, however, is often treated as a specifically post-colonial phenomenon. The contributors in this volume assume the historicity of transcultural flows and entanglements; they consider the resulting transformative powers to be a basic feature of cultural change. By juxtaposing different notions of hybridization and specific methodologies, as they appear in the various disciplines, this volume’s design is transdisciplinary. Each author presents a disciplinary concept of hybridization and shows how it operates in specific case studies. The aim is to generate a transdisciplinary perception of hybridity that paves the way for a wider application of this crucial concept
Philosophy and anthropology have many, but largely unexplored, links and interrelationships. Historically, they have informed each other in subtle ways. This volume of original essays explores and enhances this relationship through anthropological engagement with philosophy and vice versa, the nature, sources and history of philosophical anthropology, phenomenology, and the practical, methodological and theoretical implications of a dialogue between the two subjects. ‘Philosophy and Anthropology: Border Crossings and Transformations’ seeks to enrich both the humanities and the social sciences through its informative and stimulating essays.
Up to now, debates on hybridisation are rather theoretical. This book takes an empirical look at both everyday cultures and lifestyles, religion, medicine and scientific cultures and the directions of influences. The findings suggest that hybridity and hybridising have to be conceptualised as processes of mixture relevant for constructing identities, being increasingly positively denoted and displaying the multidirectionality and multidimensionality of hybridising processes. In our globalised world such a mixture is very frequent, highly present and rather inescapable.

Dabei wird häufig auf Bourdieus Begriffsinstrumentarium Bezug genommen, das nicht auf eine endgültige Definition hin angelegt, sondern in...
