The results of the policy were paternalistic practices and forms of compensation designed not only to control workers, but also to advertise the humanity of corporate capitalism to thwart the advance of legislated reform. The Genealogy of the Cushing Family, 1905 to 1969
Matthew Cushing (1589-1660) married Nazareth Pitcher in 1613 and immigrated in 1638 from England to Hngham, Massachusetts. Theophilus, a brother, had immigrated in 1633. Descendants and relatives of Matthew live in New England and elsewhere. Some descendants immigrated to New Brunswick, Quebec, and elsewehere in Canada.
