Becoming Alive
What does it mean to be and feel alive and real? How do we become and be alive together? Human beings are uniquely concerned with the question and marvel of what it means to feel alive and real, as well as the lifelong struggle of being alive together. Becoming Alive proffers a psychoanalytic theory of experiences of being alive, acknowledging that analyst and patient, indeed, each of us, are caught up in the larger drama and mystery of being alive. Focusing on the challenge in any psychoanalytic theory to demonstrate the relation between culture, community, and the individual, LaMothe's theory provides a bridge between the three, arguing that organizations of experiences of being alive are inextricably yoked to cultural stories, rituals, and practices. Missing Us
In Missing Us: Re-Visioning Psychoanalysis from the Perspective of Community, Ryan LaMothe questions the ways in which psychoanalytic and psychodynamic theorists and clinicians have historically relied principally on a two-person psychology to understand psychosocial development and practice. While this has many benefits, two-person perspectives often overlook a central need and struggle in human life, namely community. The concept of community and its cognate communion expand and deepen psychoanalytic theories of development, as well as reframe, in part, psychoanalytic concepts, processes, and aims. In Missing Us, LaMothe, relying on the Scottish philosopher John Macmurray, carefully defines the concept of community, being sure to differentiate it from the notions of sociality and intersubjectivity. Using this definition and the concept of person, LaMothe reframes potential space, transference, and motivation. Given this unique perspective, LaMothe addresses the strengths, limitations, and challenges of psychoanalysis as a therapeutic ritual.

Global Perspectives on Research, Theory, and Practice
Over a decade in the making, this volume brings together some of the richest thinking about gestalt therapy theory and practice that emerged in the lead-up to the 21st century. In 1996, the internet was breaking out of its shell, and the first electronic journal for gestalt therapy appeared as a hybrid of the text-based discussion group Gstalt-L and the graphically rich, web-based journal itself. The journal, supported by a community at St. Johns University, was titled Gestalt!. Its vision was to stimulate a global discussion of gestalt therapy using the electronic medium that has now become so common and essential, and it did just that. Gestalt! was free. It was quick. Those working with the journal were focused on substance over style. The editors have ensured this relevant and playful attitude shines through in this collection. There are errors in form, because the editors have maintained many in order to provide a realistic feel for what the journal was like. Although it no longer exists, this book reclaims the journal’s great historical value and still-significant ideas.

Jewish Virtue Ethics

Postmodern Philosophy and Law
The author presents a two-tiered analysis that views postmodern legal thought as both a collective intellectual movement, and as the work of particular theorists, notably Friedrich Nietzsche, Michel Foucault, Jacques Derrida, Francois Lyotard, and Richard Rorty. He concludes that even though postmodern thought does not give rise to a normative theory of right that can be used as a framework for deciding cases, it can focus attention on genealogy and discourse, and can empower those who have been denied a voice in the legal system.
