In this first in-depth and wide-ranging history of Christian conversion, David Kling examines the dynamic of turning to the Christian faith by individuals, families, and people groups. Global in reach and engaging recent methods and theories in conversion studies, the narrative progresses from early Christian beginnings in the Roman world to Christianity's expansion into Europe, the Americas, China, India, and Africa. Although conversion is often associated with a particular strand of modern Christianity (evangelical) and a particular type of experience (sudden, overwhelming), when examined over two millennia, it emerges as a phenomenon far more complex than any one-dimensional profile would suggest.

Goals of Glory

In 2016, Aizawl Football Club was relegated to the second division of I-League and the coach of Mumbai Football Club, Khalid Jamil, was sacked. They joined forces and became champions of the league in 2017! This is one of the most fascinating turnaround stories in Indian sports. How did the underdogs achieve such an amazing feat? In Goals of Glory, Neel Sinha tells us not just about this wonderful victory but also traces the evolution of the ‘beautiful game’ and its support base in Mizoram in the past four decades. The book explores the interesting coincidences which brought together the winning combination and leaves us with an inspiring story of determination, passion and grit which conquered all odds.

"Lorrain’s Logbook: Notes from a Missionary in Mizoram, Northeast India (1891-1936) expands the archive for students of Northeast India. Authored by James Herbert Lorrain (Pu Buanga)—one of the most significant missionaries and linguists to operate in the colonial Indo-Burma borderlands—the Logbook is a record of personal observations across decades, from Lorrain’s arrival in Bengal in 1890 to his departure in 1932 from the Lushai Hills District (today: Mizoram). This entirely new digital transcription and text-searchable online educational resource (OER) unlocks a vital archival source for researchers of imperial frontiers, Asian borderlands, missionization, Mizo history, and beyond. It features an introduction co-authored by Dr. Kyle Jackson (Kwantlen Polytechnic University) and Prof. Joy L. K. Pachuau (Jawaharlal Nehru University)."--KPU Pressbooks website

In Search of Chin Identity

In Search of Chin Identity

Chinram was once an independent land ruled by Chin chiefs and where the people followed traditional Chin religion. By the turn of the twentieth century however, it had been abruptly transformed by British annexation and the arrival of Christian missionaries. As the Chin became increasingly related to Burmese independence movements, they began to articulate their own Christian traditions of democracy and assert a burgeoning self-awareness of their own national identity. In short, Christianity provided the Chin people with a means of preserving their national identity in the midst of multiracial and multireligious environments. Written by an exiled former Secretary General of the Chin National League for Democracy, this is the first in-depth study on Chin nationalism and Christianity. Not only does it provide a clear analysis of the close relationship between religion, ethnicity and nationalism, but also the volume contains valuable data on the Chin and their role in the history of Bruma.
