Gonadotropin

This is a must-have book for those interested in reproduction. It provides a full account of our current knowledge of the hormones intimately associated with testicular and ovarian function. Each chapter is carefully organized to cover basic concepts and recent advances in gonadotropin synthesis and secretion. The information is presented in a sequence that provides researchers, teachers, and students with a logical integration of the reproductive axis. Practical applications associated with reproductive management of domestic species are also provided. Taken together, this book is a comprehensive combination of fundamental endocrine concepts and original findings in the area of gonadotropin function.

Thomas Harriot and His World

This second volume of papers on Thomas Harriot edited by Professor Robert Fox is based on the annual Harriot lectures delivered at Oriel College, Oxford between 2000 and 2009. It complements the previous volume, published as Thomas Harriot: An Elizabethan Man of Science in 2000. The focus in several of the papers is on Harriot's outstanding achievements as a mathematician; others consider why he has never received the recognition accorded to his great contemporary, Galileo; others again examine his association with his entrepreneurial patron Walter Ralegh and his contributions to the intensely practical world of exploration and seamanship, as exemplified in his voyage to the coast of present-day North Carolina in 1585. The volume adds significantly to our understanding of a true Renaissance man who wrote accomplished Latin, earned the respect of Europe's leading mathematicians and astronomers, and moved easily in circles close to the English court and whose 'Brief and true report of the new found land of Virginia' (1588) was the first detailed description of America to be published in the English language.

Sir Frederick Handley Page’s aviation career began after his dismissal from Johnson & Phillips Ltd. for unauthorized aircraft experiments. Undeterred, he founded his own company, building his first aircraft in a shed on marshland. From these humble beginnings, Handley Page became one of the 20th century's most significant aircraft manufacturers, designing models pivotal in both world wars. His creations ranged from the Handley Page Type O of the Great War to the Victor bomber of the Cold War. Despite his many achievements, his life and legacy have remained relatively unexplored—until now. Drawing on extensive correspondence preserved at the Royal Air Force Museum in Hendon, this biograph...
