Medieval Urban Identity
The increasing prominence of urban life during the Middle Ages is undoubtedly one of the more transcendental and multi-faceted aspects of this era, having an effect on rules and laws, hygiene, and economic organisation. This book brings together contributions from a wide range of scholars who adopt a new approach to medieval urban life, using health, the economy, and regulations and laws as frames of reference for gaining a greater understanding of this historical period. Through these vectors, interesting insights are provided into medieval housing, cures for diseases, the work of artisans and merchants, and the relationship between the town and the wider region in which it was located.
Romanesque Patrons and Processes
The twenty-five papers in this volume arise from a conference jointly organised by the British Archaeological Association and the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya in Barcelona. They explore the making of art and architecture in Latin Europe and the Mediterranean between c. 1000 and c. 1250, with a particular focus on questions of patronage, design and instrumentality. Antiquarian Literature in the Sixteenth Century
During the sixteenth century, antiquarian studies (the study of the material past, comprising modern archaeology, epigraphy, and numismatics) rose in Europe in parallel to the technical development of the printing press. Some humanists continued to prefer the manuscript form to disseminate their findings – as numerous fair copies of sylloges and treatises attest –, but slowly the printed medium grew in popularity, with its obvious advantages but also its many challenges. As antiquarian printed works appeared, the relationship between manuscript and printed sources also became less linear: printed copies of earlier works were annotated to serve as a means of research, and printed works could be copied by hand – partially or even completely. This book explores how antiquarian literature (collections of inscriptions, treatises, letters...) developed throughout the sixteenth century, both in manuscript and in print; how both media interacted with each other, and how these printed antiquarian works were received, as attested by the manuscript annotations left by their early modern owners and readers.

Col·leccionistes, antiquaris, falsificadors i museus. Noves dades sobre el patrimoni artístic de Catalunya al segle xx
El col·leccionisme és un fenomen que neix en la seva forma moderna a partir del Renaixement italià i que perdura fins als nostres temps, en què la figura del col·leccionista és prou ben valorada socialment perquè és vist com un impulsor del mercat artístic contemporani i, alhora, com una garantia per a la preservació de les peces d’art antic. Avui dia es considera que el fet de tenir bons col·leccionistes és un signe de civilitat i un clar indicador de la maduresa intel·lectual i patrimonial d’un país. Des del segle XIX a Catalunya s’han creat notables col·leccions privades i institucionals, com ara la de la Junta de Museus a Barcelona o les dels museus diocesans. La determinació i l’entusiasme de les persones que les van aplegar han estat un factor clau per a l’enriquiment i la definició dels museus actuals. Rescatar la memòria biogràfica dels col·leccionistes, establint fins on sigui possible el contingut i l’itinerari formatiu de les seves col·leccions, és un repte intel·lectual per als investigadors i, a més a més, un gest de redreçament cultural.
